I thought i may as well add this in here as i'm interested in knowing what isp's Call of Duty players have and how they find their ping and connection.

I've just changed to Vodafone 8mb and am waiting for it to come through. If anyone has this package and plays MW2 online, perhaps you can provide an insight into how good it actually is.

PS: I know this is a broadband question and there are broadband sub forums but the probability of finding people in there that play MW2 on a console is slim. Please mods don't move this as i'm genuinely interested in what everyone has to say.

Thanks to all who take the time to reply, appreciate it alot.:D

I've got UPC (Chorus) 30mb line and have never experienced lag in game

Probably no help to you though, although my friend plays on a 7mb (or 8mb) eircom line and he says its grand, not perfect but grand

I've eircom at the moment 3mB line and am fed up of it. It's the reason i've opted for the 8mB Vodafone package for much less. Here's hoping it's good.

Keep the posts coming guys, i'd like more feedback.

When I say my Isp is vodafone, I use the term "Isp" loosely, it should be "Ssp", Sh*t Service Provider :pac:

Vodafone mobile broadband. This is my results..

But then I check the vodafone client, the download speed barely tops 50kb/s when playing on the Playstation alone. Is there a way to stop having cod so laggy when it's not "demanding" enough speeds from the mobile broadband?

I hope I am wrong but I am afraid you will be dissapointed. There are many things that can cause lag but the most important two are:

    - A line issue (either PSTN or internal)
    - ISP issues (lack of bandwidth, incorrect routing tables, DNS problems, BRAS, etc)

I have been "told" Vodafone are suffering (and real bad) from the second one, and I am not even considering contention.

Mobile broadband is different though and you are likely to suffer from lag, or at least more likely.

NTL/UPC are probably your best option, although they do have network issues on isolated areas is your best option, unless you are lucky enough to be on a FTTH (fiber to the home - Magnet) or FTTB (Smart) exchange/area.

I am very lucky as I have a fibre connection at home, pings to bbc.co.uk for example take less then 2 ms.

If you want my advice I'd try:

    Magnet Fibre (FTTH)
    Smart (FTTB) or LLU
    Magnet LLU
    Smart Bitstream
    UPC

There are more ISPs of course but those are def my top 5

Well the 3mb package i'm on with sh1tcom is only giving me about 2mb and i'm sick of talking to broadband support ar$eholes that insist on telling you it's your computer that's the problem and not their service.

Besides i'll be on a 7mB package with Vodafone for much less and even if i get 4.5 of that 7mB i'll be chuffed.

how long does is it taking people to download say a 2 gigabyte game ? My best connection is 350 kbps and takes 3 hours ! I hav 7 mb eircom broadband but its frustrating stuff......

Magnet Fibre 8Mb (or at least what was the 8Mb package about four years ago).

Bloody epic, especially the upload speed, sometimes even beats the download speeds! Usually get host on the 360 whenever a new host needs to be picked, and this is even with the fact my 360 only connects via my computer with ICS, and I could be doing whatever on my PC at the time.

Yet to try playing MW2 (360) and TF2 (PC) simultaneously though :pac:

Eircom 24mb, rock solid, never had a single problem in game. Was on 7mb prior to that, same story, and even as far down as 1mb it was pretty much fine.

NTL (UPC) which works fine 98% of the time, the odd time i might get disconnected or lag, but generally cannot complain about the service.
