Strange Problem / Virus

One of the computers at work has a possible virus I think. A while ago my work collegue kept getting inappropiate pop ups any time she went on the internet that advertised porn sites etc.

Anything I've done hasn't stopped them and also I cannot get onto any internet anti-virus sites (McAffe/Panda Security etc.) and also I can't run windows update or do any of the things that is recommended in the sticky that I try first before opening a thread.

Its only these sites I keep getting the "internet explorer cannot display the webpage" message. I can go onto any webpage (google/rte.ie/boards.ie/bbc.co.uk etc etc) but if I try go to a security website or try the recommendations in the sticky or windows update I get the above message.

Anyone got any ideas of what's wrong?

    Cheers!

You are most likely correct in your opening sentence, you likely have a virus or malware on the PC, next step is to decide if you want to have a go at clearing it yourself (if so see sticky - I think I have a virus) , get a professional to do it for you or just format the PC, either way I would start by backing up any important data you have on the PC (make sure this data is clean before you put it on other PCs)

Also if the computer is on a network then you should also have the other PCs looked at

You should try download malwarebytes etc. on to a usb key from another computer and also download rkill which will terminate the malware programme so you can run malwarebytes or whatever tool you wish to use.
