hi, just wondering what happens in having to repeat certain modules in my course.Ijust finished 2nd year in my course and found it tough, so tough in fact i ended failing 5 out of 10, i am so disappointed and feel like such a failure, It would be hard enough to repeat 1 or 2 exams but five seems impossible. I am willing to work hard but am i fooling myself, i have really loved doing the course and repeating the year isn't an option financially so it seems bleak, does it cost much to repeat the exams? any advice would be appreciated, on such a low at the moment

Can I ask what course you're doing? And what year?

The first thing you should do is e-mail the lecturers of the modules you've failed explaining that you would like to meet with them to talk about your results. Viewing your scripts would be advisable as well so you can see where you lost marks and what let you down.

I repeated four modules last summer and I know people who've repeated up to 11 during August so it is possible depending on how hard you're willing to work and how naturally good you are at your course. If any of you're exams were very close to the 40% pass rate you can always look at the option of having them rechecked after you've viewed the scripts.

This is the first year where you have to pay for your repeats and no figure has been given yet. If you email education@uccsu.ie the education officer should be able to tell you how much they're expected to be. Don't feel too bad about it. You're not the first to fail your exams and you definitely won't be the last. There's a lot of support out there for you so don't be afraid to use it.

still its only 5 exams..dont get too bogged down at the end of the day if you study hard for the repeats it will be the same as getting 10 passes first time off if you pass these 5.

just finished 2nd year computer science, i wonder would contacting my lecturers help, I found some of them not very approachable, especially in the areas i failed in, two of the results were very close to 40% it would be great to see if a recheck would make the difference with these. How do I go about this? Thanks for the comments

Second year computer science is notoriously hard. I think there's something like a 33% pass rate for the summer exams so really don't worry about. The majority of your class has failed at least one subject!

I know some of them might not be very approachable but to be honest it just looks better if you make some sort of an effort to meet with them. They'll at least remember that you cared enough about your course to go to them.

CS also run tutorials during the summer for those that have failed so you'll need to contact your department anyway to sign up for them. You're tutored by 4th years so they'll be much more approachable and be able to give you advice aswel.

You need to apply to have a recheck done the form is online here

If you've any hassle just pm me and I'll help you fill it out.
