    Hey Irishjay

Have you tried the kitten with solid food yet?

At the age of 8 weeks, the kitten will usually have been trying solid food alongside its mother's milk for the last three to four weeks. As long as the mother is present and willing to suckle, the kittens will return to suckle from her, but generally they've had a crack at whatever solid food is going from about four to five weeks onwards.

You can buy lactose free milk in the chiller cabinet of large supermarkets, and you can try the kitten with some of that, but give it as a supplement or a treat, not as a central meal.

If you have both the mum and the kitten, don't bother buying the lactose free milk. I have yet to see a kitten who won't turn their nose up at a saucer of milk when they still have their mum's milk on tap; however they will dive headfirst into a dish of wet catfood quite happily.

Theres really no need for a replacement milk, the mother would be weaning the kitten and cutting down the feeds and by eight weeks the kitten is well able to eat solids.
Just get a good quality kitten food, Royal canin do a baby cat food which my vet recommended for a 6week old orphan and no milk substitute.
Also you can soften the nuts with warm water, gradually lessen the water so the nuts are dryer, and by about 4 months the kitten should be fine.
