guys, my dad wants to render / dash the boundary walls out the back garden at home.

they are currently standard exposed solid blocks on their edge.
he was thinking of just dry dashing them but somebody mentioned that he should render them as they are maintainance free.

are there any advantages or dis advantages to this?
i was thinking that the render could crack and fall apart from vibration or similar, maybe kids kicking a ball against it or hitting the wall from the other side etc

anybody have any recommended products for the render?

    thanks.

dry dash around a garden can get very dirty over time and is tough to clean... a spray hose will knock many pebbels off.

sand and cement render is easy to apply. if applied properly it wont fall off. However if this is not painted within, say, 2 years, it tends to gather a reddish brown fungus which is incredible difficult to clean off. So paint soon after rendering. This painting may need to be topped up every 10 years if a good quality paint is used.

you can also use a coloured render which in theory should not require any maintenance during its life time other than a wash when dirty. The most popular type is a monocouche render.
