Hi im looking for as much input as possible on the various broadband providers in Tuam. Its for my sisters family, the kids use it mainly browsing, email downloading songs etc. There seem to be so many companies round but i don't have a clue where to start, where offers the best value for money and if the services provided are any good ?

They don't have a phone line at the moment.

I've narrowed it down to O2 or 3, does anyone have any experience of either of these providers in the area? Also, can you get a trial period or short contract with either of these companies to see how it performs in your area.

Do NOT take out 3 broadband (I am referring to the non-phone line dongle). This broadband is just marginally worse than 3`s customer service.

I personally have 3 broadband and find it very fast and have found ringing them with any problems grand. I am currently paying €19.99 per month for a 15mb allowence which is pretty good as i never use it all up. I am living outside the town so not sure if they service the town itself.

Previously i had Vodafone and had to return this as it was too slow more or less like having dialup so not worth the price.

    Hmmm two conflicting experiences

She had Vodafone before but it was absolute rubbish.

These guys supply around the corofin area so the house in tuam might be in line of sight of their mast (all depending where the house is)

We got them in connemara and have been excellent.

I do not work for this company

So far digiweb are the best I've used. Vodafone is very patchy, you have to constantly reload the page just to get it to display fully. Eircom will cut you off and report you if they don't like what your downloading and any of the other so called broadband option that don't involve a fixed line are a complete waste of time.

Thanks for all the input folks much appreciated. It seems location has a big factor on service, my sister is down by the Ard Ri hotel, vodafone reception is very poor at her house. Il shop around anyway.

I'm like 100m from the hotel, have to say when we had Eircom broadband is was pretty good, slow at peak times. Since then we've tried 3 mobile broadband, would definitely recommend against it, horrible coverage and my friend out near milltown had literally 10x better coverage and speeds compared to mine somehow? Also, 3 have cut the monthly allowance from 15 to 10gb a month with the same e19.99 charge (see midband forum for other info if you want).

Currently on vodafone mobile broadband, and this is what I'm getting :

Monthly data allowance is 10gb a month, e19.99 aswell I think, but that's reduced to 14.99/15.99 a month if you currently have a vodafone pay monthly mobile phone.

Those mobile things are terrible, they're only for accessing the internet on the road. It make no sense at all to sell them to a home user. If you don't need constant access to the internet where ever you go then there's no point in having a usb mobile broadband dongle.

Agree. And you have to differentiate between Vodafone mobile broadband and Vodafone landline broadband.

I'm on Vodafone landline broadband. It's €35 per month and for that you get:

    Line Rental
Free off-peak calls (evenings and weekends) to Irish landlines and 3 Irish Vodafone mobile numbers
    3MB broadband

The broadband service is good. It's a good package for the price.
