Just wondering if anyone knows if there are any app out there that will detect IR signals from an ordinary tv remote and allow you to assign tasks to certain buttons??

Even if such an app existed, IR signals travel only in straight lines. Meaning that you'd need to point your computer at the device you were attempting to control. Kind of like a bulkier remote control.

I think you misunderstood my question. Probably my fault, sorry. I dont want to use my mac as a remote i want to use another remote instead of the mac remote wit my notebook that will allow me to assign more tasks to the remote. For example using an old TV remote.
