I've been toying with the idea of building an electric Guitar kit,I did a banjo a while back from that musicking link and it's sparked my interest. I've only come across a couple on line, from Thomann and musicking, both cheap as chips. The musicking les paul copy interests me,although many say play well when completed, usually arrive with bits missing. So has anyone attempted a thomann model kit,at €77 euro,it's really not a big spend, and I assume from reading here that parts can be swapped for better quality if the need arises. TBH I dont expect good quality from either,I just enjoy the process of building and finish. So any recommendations appreciated,or other links from places that sell kits. BTW,the musicking kits are made by the Kit company I believe.

Tbh, that's not really "building" a guitar. It's merely screwing it together! Everything is pre-wired.
If it were me, and i wanted to build a strat from different parts i'd just buy good quality parts and make something at least somewhat unique. Even buying an old squier and modifying it would be better than the above kits imo.

I agree with Alan, a few years ago the missus got me a strat kit off thomann for something to do over the christmas hols, it was a pig(excuse the french) to get a smooth finish on the body. the quality of the components are pretty poor also. It plays badly also and sits in the corner as an ornament....
So doing up another guitar is what i would do also

Might be worth getting the wood out of it but then get some better quality switches, pickups & wiring ?

I'm not even sure it's worth the wood tbh! If it costs 70 quid with wood, neck, electronics, the body is going to be the lowest of the low quality. I'd look on ebay for a tasty strat body and go from there. You can pick up nice ones for not too much money(100~), with or without a finish.
I suppose it depends on how much you're willing to spend. If it was a sub 200 build, i'd find a squire on adverts and modifiy pickups(GFS do nice/cheap pickups), scratchplate, etc etc. Much better than those kits, and you get to be more creative with it.

the 7 string guitar was built for around 140 sterling by me. its not that expensive. i spent 20 on a block of 3foot by 6foot mahogany, 80 on the neck and the rest for pick ups.
