sorry toyota but you just dont make any nice cars anymore ,

hilux - now has an awful front end, costs 10k more than any other pickup
avensis - now has an awful front end
landcruiser - too expensive for what it is, theres far better options now
camry - isnt sold here anymore
corolla - not bad but the likes of the hyundai i30 outshine it in every way

yaris, aygo, iq, prius - all terrible cars that shouldnt exist

I think the newest avensis doesn't look too bad, compared to practically all it's competition anyway.

The hi lux is iconic, but they should've stuck with the substance over style designs from ten years ago and before.

I don't think there is a better option than a landcruiser, maybe cheaper, but that doesn't mean better.

The corolla is far superior to the hyundai i30, it's just a bit dull looking, and maybe expensive.

The prius is not pointless. Ask 100 people to name a hybrid car, and the majority, if not all, will say prius.

It still makes me laugh when people say that toyota aren't reliable anymore, all because old people panic while driving.

At least they're actively trying to regain the trust of the tabloid readers.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    LOL @ Colm's ad :D

They were the number one in sales here a few years ago. Now down to number 4. Can't see them get back in first place again unless indeed, they'll better the 7 year warranties on offer from the Korean companies selling (now!) equally mediocre cars...

that uk deal is a standard 3 year warranty and then an added 2 years from toyota UK similar to our used car warranty here.. so unlikey we will see it...

Toyota the best re-built cars in the world

theres a toyota dealer not far from me and it seems they can really move cars as the yard is always full these days with new toyotas different ones most days. Id say toyota sales on these parts are at an all tiime high as scumbags in limerick love "aventsis"

Actually they prefer Passats these days, in fact there is one well known family who have a fleet of silver Passats.

Well the only two everyday affordable Brands worth buying are Toyota or VW and some Honda models except the expensive Accord. Ford just sell boring Diesel cars here now, and the rest Nissan, Opel, Renault etc..are not worth half there RRP. IMO

So Toyota with a 5 year warranty would be a good deal for me.
Or VW if they match it!

The Irony of calling Fords boring and while saying VW and Toyota are the only brands worth buying. IMO there the most boring of the lot!

The new models do look good, but I personally dont like Opel, always found them to date quickly? Also there emissons are quit high especially on the Petrol engines.

    5yrs warranty.

There'll be no stopping them now....

Still you can't polish a turd. Toyota are seriously the most boring cars on the road and their drivers are amongst the most conservative and frustrating to get held up behind. Toyotas are junk boxes and lack any serious style.

Compared to what exactly? Remember affordable cars only, We live in Ireland. The only other option is VW.

Cars I would take over an Avensis:

    Citroen C5
    Opel Insignia
Volvo s40 (smaller but the new s60 isnt out yet)
    Saab 93
    Mazda 6

They would all be preferable to an Avensis to me. The Avensis has very little going for it.

Why is VW the only option? Its not like VW have a stella rep for reliability.

They do actually. But it's not one that actually reflects their reliability :)

I think the newest avensis doesn't look too bad, compared to practically all it's competition anyway.
the new passat and 5 series are far superior in looks and trim wise not as reliable but still a lot more car for the money
The hi lux is iconic, but they should've stuck with the substance over style designs from ten years ago and before.
agreed, entirely , the new isuzu d-max is what the hilux should be , cheap and a workhorse
I don't think there is a better option than a landcruiser, maybe cheaper, but that doesn't mean better.
i think for anyone except the UN the likes of the kia sorento would give it a good run for its money
The corolla is far superior to the hyundai i30, it's just a bit dull looking, and maybe expensive.
    please explain
The prius is not pointless. Ask 100 people to name a hybrid car, and the majority, if not all, will say prius.
ask anyone whats the most unreliable car ever , theyll probably respond fiat or range rover, just because a name is known doesnt mean its a good thing
It still makes me laugh when people say that toyota aren't reliable anymore, all because old people panic while driving.
they are reliable , but 'best built cars in the world' should be dropped at this stage

    What about the Yaris???:(

A great little run about, ultra low running costs. Lowest petrol co2 emissions on the road, and the new 1.33 model is nippy with 104 motor tax!:)

personally im not a small car fan so any opinion i would give would only be negative, out of the fiesta, 206, etc... catagory its a tossup between the polo and yaris for best of catagory but in my view its a best of a bad lot scenario . ill allow you this one but the toyota iq and aygo are actually just pointless cars

I agree those ultra small cars IQ etc..., are a joke cost and safety wise. Why??? For a grand or two you can get a Yaris, Polo etc...

the yaris/polo is a practical 2nd car / starter car for somebody single or a school run with 1 or 2 kids, a bit of shopping etc...

the iq, smart car, fiat 500 etc... are just not practical for 90% of people and make no sense to produce

That's the real problem. I don't think that they have built a vaguely interesting car since the old Celica GT4.

Affordable everyday use cars, If you want flashyness or performance you go for the likes of BMW etc..., but at a cost premium!

That's not the point. The point is that Toyota used to be the brand that set the benchmark for build quality and reliability. At the same time, they had a range from the small car to the big car, sports car, 4x4, minibus and van.
If you wanted a coupe you had the Celica, if you wanted a fast rally bred coupe you had the GT4. If you wanted a mid-engined car on a budget you had the MR2. If you wanted something to match a Ferrari for pace but for a lot less money and a lot more reliability you had the Supra. If you were young and didn't have a lot, you had the Corolla AE86 in the 80's, the twin-cam 20 in Japan in the 90's or the GLI over here, or the Carina GTI either with the Celica engine. A camry made a low key alternative to a 5-series.
VW even now have flair in their range. You can have a Golf GTi or R32. A Scirocco with a mix of engines, a Polo Gti, a Passat R36 if you don't want anyone to know how fast you can go...
Then their focus changed from "build the best" to "be the biggest", and that was the beginning of their down-fall. They axed cars like the MR2 and Celica, axed the Camry, axed any kind of interesting engine choice for the Avensis or Auris, went cheap on the Auris interior, and messed up on the reliability part, which was their flag.
However, unlike most boardsies, I see a glimmer of light for Toyota. While they went cheap on the production of some parts and axed exciting models they still didn't decent to unreliable and poorly built. So their reliability can bounce back, now that they've learned that lesson the hard way.
The new FT86 (Celica concept) is the business, and hopefully will kick-start a new engine choice for other models too.
All that's left is for them to use the new Celica designer to pen the Auris replacement and they may be back on track!

So just because they offer "sensible" cars they shouldnt offer anything remotely interesting? Thats nonsense. They were always able to offer quick cars years ago and some nice if slightly dull coupes. Why should making everyday cars for the masses stop them from making some interesting ones as well?

Blame the Eco Nazis for that, Pressure from Berlin:eek:, oh I mean Brussels:D! For manufacturers to produce low CO2 emitting cars! Low CO2 figures means light and boring materials and designs. You choose what or who you vote for, You takes your consequences!

Just got an response from an email that I sent to Toyota Ireland on the 21/6 as follows:

Unfortunately at the moment there are currently no plans to introduce the 5 year waranty that is now available in the UK.

Ireland get left behind once again. Hyundai ix35 looking alot more likely to be what I will be driving next year instead of my rav 4 sol.

Cheaper, very high spec as standard, €302 road tax and 5 yr warranty - toyota don't stand a chance.
