SD cards for Panasonic Lumix

    Hello folks,

Be gentle I'm not often in here :D Apologies if I make any errors.

So I've got a Panasonic Lumix, pretty much point and shoot and reasonably fool proof - suits me just fine.

I am looking to buy a new SD card, I've several 1g and 2g San Disks which work fine. Can I use a larger capacity SD card in this camera, as I also take video of course lectures and I run out of space quickly. I saw a 16g SD card on Amazon and wondered if it'd work?

    ATB,

    John

Depends on how new it is, mine is about 1.5 years old and it will work with a 16g SDHC card just fine.

Any Lumix from mid to late 2007 should work with SDHC, SDHC being a standard of SD card with a capacity of 4GB or higher.

If you post the Panasonic Lumix model number, someone should be able to tell you for definite.

Do you happen to know anyone with a SDHC card? If so throw one into it and see if it works. Or if you give your general location you may find a boardsie willing to meet up and try one of their SDHC cards with you.

Some cameras required a firmware update to accept SDHC cards - my older dSLR needed this so even if your lumix is old-ish (pre SDHC) there may be an update available from the manufacturer to enable it to accept the larger capacity cards.

Larger cards are great but a disaster if you loose it. Trust me. Get two 8Gb cards instead IMO

yup i'd recommend this too... besides 8GB will cover you 90% of the time unless your on holidays or something like that and then you can just throw the extra card into your wallet even in case you fill the other card... also just in the event of some unforeseen mishap with one card you still have something to turn too... just makes a wee bit of sense i suppose... but it's up to you i suppose :) just my 2 cents

SDHC cards should work just fine in your camera.

Yeah stick an SDHC card in. Most lumix camera's supported them since long before your camera was made. :)
