Lydia Foy. Did you hear about him?

    117673.jpg

The Government has dropped its challenge to a High Court declaration that Irish law on transgender rights is in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.

    Are they right?

So does it still have a dick? It's only make-up?

    It's voice did sound feminine.

I use "it" because I don't know the correct/definite gender

To be recognised as a woman. S/he can't file any legal form i.e. Insurance as a woman.

    She's a she now.

    Yes they are.

    About bloody time.

Sad fact is, the government didn't do this because they all-of-a-sudden became "progressive". They did this because they knew they would lose - the precedent exists in the European Court of Human Rights case Goodwin vs. United Kingdom, almost the exact same in its facts.

Congratulations Lydia, maybe now you can get on with your life.

Nah, you used it because you don't recognise her right to a gender that suits her.

Don't be a dick. "It" is the wrong pronoun either way.

    Science begs to differ.
The present findings of somatostatin neuronal sex differences in the BSTc and its sex reversal in the transsexual brain clearly support the paradigm that in transsexuals sexual differentiation of the brain and genitals may go into opposite directions and point to a neurobiological basis of gender identity disorder.

ugh, now i've no problem with this man, but until he has two X chromosomes, there's no court in the world that can make him female. that's the way it is, and this whole legal carry on is nothing but attention-seeking behaviour.

let him live his life either way, but just getting a pair of plastic tits and having your twig and giggleberries cut off does not make you a woman.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 504 ✭✭✭cypharius

IMO he's still a he. He still has a Y chromosome doesn't he?

Perhaps somebody should provide a link to a site that explains what rights he/she/it had before and what it has now?

Way I see it, he shouldn't be allowed to adopt children, that's it. Other then that he should have the same rights we have.

that's why I said that this gender issue was entirely cosmetic. the only way that this man could be scientifically recignised as a woman is if every single of his cells was stripped of its Y chromosome and replaced with an X one. i mean, if I bought a bucked of brown paint and applied it to myself, could i get my birth cert. changed to identify me as a black person? didn't think so

besides, you could totally see his adams apple on the news!

http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055944102 is a thread in the politics forum about this event. Unfortunately considering the posts that have preceded this I doubt we have the ability to facilitate a reasonable non-offensive discussion on transgender rights in AH. Not on this thread anyway. Considering this inability to discuss this topic in a non-insulting manner I have decided that the offence already caused and that which is doubtless to come outweighs the potential merits of such a discussion in after hours at this time.
    Please PM me for clarification.
