golf classic, scramble, change ball mid hole???

    i'm just wondering if i can drive with one golf ball and then take my next shot with a different ball, ie drive with a distance ball and the use a soft ball for my iron shots, the format is 4 man team sramble.

    afaik any event other than a scramble you'd be penalised, but with a scramble it's okay

    the player whose ball is being used for the 2nd shot might have to use the same one, because his ball would still be in play

    i hit off my 2 team mates hit of we pick the best drive and then we all take a shot from the position of the best drive.

    yeah, that's what i getting at
    once the other 3 balls are picked up, they're no longer in play, so can be changed
    the best drive ball is still in play, so can't be changed

    Im still not sure you can change, you cant change your own ball on the green even when its marked and in your pocket as you are still playing that hole. Until the hole is complete I wouldnt think you can change your ball in any format.

    +1, I don't know for sure, but would imagine that you have to complete the hole with the ball you started it with, unless its damaged.

    Surely it would be impractical to enforce such a rule in a scramble.

    You see it all the time in scrambles - if my own ball is miles away from the where the chosen ball lies then rather than scamper off and pick up my original ball, i just use an alternate and pick up the other one on the way past.

    Do people really take a scramble that seriously anyway?
