Society outing at the weekend, President's Prize. A rule in place stipulating only fully paid-up members who had played at least one outing previous to Saturday were eligible for first prize. Highest score belonged to a man who hadn't paid his membership.

Prizes distributed when his Dad cut loose, berating all and sundry for not "telling his son he was not eligible" to win. Result? Day spoiled for everyone and looks like the Soc will fold.

What TF ever happened to personal responsibility? One of the basic rules in golf is everyone is responsible for making him/herself aware of the rules. In this case, a notice to the effect was in place where cards were distributed. (Apparently "he didn't see it!")

Why do any of us bother?

How long is the rule in place?

Does every member get a copy of the club rules when they sign up?

Most clubs have a rule like this

The people who put in the countless hours, booking courses, marking cards, buying prizes, etc......

And the actual winner of the competition, who has had his moment of glory sullied by a pair of *****s.

It's a Society, not a club. The rules are not written down, but this one was expressly stated on the starters' table at this outing. It's a typical rule for any Society, to prevent someone turning up on the day and walking away with a prize, not having been a regular member of the Soc.

Simple solution for you's going forward , In our society if you haven't paid you subscription for the yr ( 50 notes in our case ) you are only eligible for the visitors prize till you pay up ..

That is the rule, and has been since the inception of the Soc, just some a55holes think they are above the same rules as everyone else.

Society shouldn't fold just because some gimp cut loose.

If i didn't pay my subs and won a prize i wouldn't dare collect it , more out of respect to the lads that did pay . How anybody would have the neck to dare look for the prize is beyond me ...
