Looking into buying a bike for the summer. Have had previous experience on a small bike [125 Honda Rebel] 3 years experience 4 years ago. Was looking into the possiblity of getting some sort of 250 like a C.B.R. 250 or another Rebel 250. Im really unsure as to what I can drive and what I cant, have come across some 400's that are "learner legal" too. Just dont want to be stuck on another 125 as Ive had some high performance cars since the bike and couldn't go back to a slow machine now.

You can drive whatever you want as long as it's either under 33BHP or restricted to 33BHP.

    Have fun.

Just rang Quinn Direct there, seems anything 250 or below is ok, just got a quote on a Yamaha 250FZRR and its 450 for the year which is pretty decent, damn N.C.B have expired on me though.

...don't forget this bit also......: or a power to weight ratio of less than 0.16kW per kg......

...which means you can buy a 1450 Harley and drive it on a Provisional, as well.........

most bikes come with a restricted 33bhp version.

To keep things simple.. Just get a bike with no more than 33bhp.

    Enjoy

One day this forum will have sticky posts that get used where the most common questions asked in the forum are answered and that all future questioning people are pointed at.

Weird how the most asked question doesn't have a sticky all to itself at this stage.

Either that or all our responses should be RTFM

its power to weigth ratio, for example you can drive a Harley Daviudson Heritage soiftail which is well over 1000cc.

One day it may even have a search capability so people can see if their question has been asked tens of times before.

Until then though I guess we'll just have to make do with what we've got.

TBH a sticky would have been helpful. I've just got back into biking and found getting info on this to be hard enough. Retailers websites do not say and even trying to get the basic calculations was tricky enough.

Most internet searches linked to old pages with obsolete information etc.

    Anyway, my 2 cents.

Boards sorted me out and I'm now biking again :-)
