OK I have had these torches out a couple of times now and a few of you have asked where I got them from and how good are they.

First off don't compare these to the Lightforce 170 lamps. The 170 LF will outshine and throw a longer beam than these ever can. And I have used the 170 LF and still have the handheld version with dimmer.
But I found that when I used the scope mounted version when I got it off the back seat of the car the lamp head had always turned and I had to twist it back before any shot could be taken a big let down from the 170 LF for me. And of course you always had the battery to carry as well.

Now these LED torches give a long narrow throw of a beam and you will see the reflection from the foxes eyes @200m+ IMO. You will not make out the outline of the fox at 200m but you will easily see that fox in your scope @150m+ and place the shot. At 100m+ you will see the fox walking about, see it's colour, body, tail, everything.

I have left one on for over 2 + half hours and you will get a lot more time from it as you won't have it on all the time, and of course you can put a couple of spare batteries in your pocket (careful not to let them short out). The batteries used are 4 x CR123A or 2 x TR18650 3.7volt. Input voltage is 7.4v-17v and is regulated. The output is stated @220lumens and has is a CREE P4 LED.
It has a clicky/pushy on/off on the end and you must push it all the way to turn on/off.

I have two and use one for scaning the fields and the other is fixed to my scope with 2 cheap back to back scope mounts as shown.

Put a chamfer on both sides of the 12mm bar not just one side as shown here.

Yep i have one and it like you say!!

Great bit of kit and a winner on the weight factor. Pure delight to carry. Great thrower. Spare parts currently available.

The beam is so narrow that the unit needed to be securely fixed to the firearm.

Can see distinct colours out at good distances

    Best value torch out there...

Its one of the best buys i have made in a long time!:D

It is legal once you have it declared in section 3.2 of the firearms form, and of course you're successful in you application..

Anyway the lamp clivej is reviewing only cost $37 so prob e30... and its a hell of a light for 30euros... the hidden extra cost come with batteries. I buy CR123's of ebay at a Dollar a pop and only buy 20 at a time so as to avoid having to pay taxes that are sometimes occurred on higher valued parcels.
I have seen the same here for sale at 6-7euros each...in chemists etc

For about 7-8 euro you can buy a charger and batteries to suit..

Its light-weight its cheap and it works well!

Thanks Ivan for the support, about time you and me got out shooting.

I paid €93 for the 2 Torches as shown and 3 batery packs (6 batteries) the charger and I also got a smaller torch that takes an AA battery thats good out to 100m+ for the 22lr.

    Good little torch @$23

clivej do you have the smaller torch in your last post? how does it compare say to a decent lamping lamp, like a clulite? I have a few dealextreme led lights and find them very good, but nowhere near the throw of a clulite or even a cheapo 1 million candle power jobby (I know these are a lot bigger tho)

    cheers :)

    great work there clive.

i recently bought a ledlenser P7 with scope mount and additional remote switch that you can stick to your stock where your thumb will be so you can switch it on without moving your hands.
i used it last night and got a couple of bunnys and a fox with it.
very handy if you are by your self.
give me a buz the next time you want to go out lamping clive and we can compare the two torches. this time leave the rain behind.:p
i dont think i ever got a wet as the last time you came down:D

Clivej few questions if you dont mind thanks, did you buy these torches from dealextreme?? are they ok to deal with, how long does it take for them to ship/post the torches? where are they based? and is it possible to get filters for the first led torch you have posted up- the CREE XR- E
the info on these torches is great lads, they sound very good for people who shoot by themselves occasionally without a lamp-man!
    thanks for the reviews

Yes and its good for the 22lr out to 120y. BUT its an odd diameter so didn't fix it to the scope yet.

    • did you buy these torches from dealextreme = YES
    • are they ok to deal with = Like any Internet company but i hear they don't answer e-mails very well
    • how long does it take for them to ship = Ages about 2 months. but it all came in the end
    • where are they based = China i think
    • get filters = not that i know of
I must say they are a good lump of a torch BUT will never beat the LightForce lamps

And they sell wind meters @$36 inc post

I'll buy all I can get in the shop tomorrow, when they are all gone I'll tell everyone lol

Seriously, it is only the Torch I bought.
I do not have a scope mount, or a remote switch.

I'm not sure how good it would be on my 56mm scope as all the guys who have used them so far on rifles were 50mm or less.

I have to laugh, I actually bought it as a christmas prezzie, the recepiant might get a selection box now :D:D:D

I just bought another, it was a shade dear, but it comes with the scope mount delivered for €74

I'll use my Lightforce for scanning ant the led Lenser for shooting.

It should make things more manageable for my Solo Lamping :D

    Foxes beware!

was in the local wholesale shop there, and the lenser sales rep was in at the same time, had a look at the m7r, nice bit of kit, what i like about it is you can lock the head of the torch so when you set the spread of the beam it can be lock'd, something that can't be done with the p7,
he also tells me that after christmas there should be mounting kit available for the m7r as well, how soon after christmas i dont know,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,108 ✭✭✭clivej

I was looking at the P7 today and the torch I have reviewed here is IMO
    JUST AS GOOD
if not better with a tighter long throw beam and little spread.

Look if you really want use a permanent marker.

However, You will completely destroy the usefulness of the light IMvHO

Unless you are using a Zeiss Divari 6-24x72 I would stay with the white light

A P7 IS NOT a Lightforce, where a lightforce can use a filter, a less powerful lamp will struggle with one

I have both a Lightforce and a P7 and have used both extensively at night for various jobs.

The usefulness of a P7 is it is small
