Channel 4 copy protected?

I have a few old episodes of Countdown recorded on Sky +. They're the final few episodes that Carol Vorderman presented (I recorded them because I fancy her :o). I was just about to record them to DVD using my Philips DVD recorder so I could free up space on my Sky + box. However none of them would record. The DVD just seemed to pause. I looked at the DVD channel and it said "copy protected".

When did Channel 4 start copy protecting their programmes? Also how did they manage to copy protect old programmes? I previously recorded episodes that were broadcast just the week before. I never had a problem recording anything from Channel 4 before this. If I had recorded these Countdown episodes a few months ago I bet they would have worked. And finally why would Channel 4 copy protect Countdown of all things? Surely they're not going to lose any money by letting people record Countdown on a blank DVD. It's not like Countdown DVDs are available to buy.

sounds like a problem with the dvd itself, to stop it being recorded on not the signal. Try a different DVD.

I tried a couple of different DVDs. I pressed record on the DVD recorder before the Countdown title music came on and it started to record. As soon as Countdown started the DVD paused. I switched on the DVD channel and it said "copy protected".

    I'm watching right now.

Unless your laptop/computer is in a time-warp and is on the 4OD of this time last year, it's not your ip address blocking your use of 4OD!
