Signing up for the force is accepting mediocrity and is appealing to those whose dream in life is to own a 3-bed semi-D before they retire.

So if 15,000 want to join up, when do the laws of supply and demand kick in? I have no doubt that there'd be plenty of folk lining up to have a badge on their arm even if the pay was €20k. I remember the litter wardens at school: they'd pick up apple cores and banana skins off the ground just so they could wear a little luminous armband and feel all smug inside.

am i missing something here? should it not be that 15k people have expressed interest by registering on publicjobs.ie rather than actually applying etc?
