I went to Rome and Florence last year and loved it. This September Im thinking about going to Venice, Verona and onto Bologna for a few days each!

What is Bologna like as a city break? any other ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks:D

Great spot if you are a foodie or like a good youthful buzz to a city (its a college town essentially). As with most Italian cities, it has beautiful architecture and is wonderful just to walk around aimlessly in. But, to do it justice, eat at a few of its fabulous restaurants and wine bars.

Try Da Cesari, or for a truly stunnning (and slightly bizarre dining experience!!) try Drogheria della Rosa.

I flew into and out of Bologna a few years ago prior to staying in Tuscany and I loved it, really great vibe with all the students, came home thinking
it would be a great spot for a full weekend.

milan is probably closer and easily the most under-rated city in italy for me, loads of stuff to see and do in the city itself, good nightlife (something lacking in other big italian cities) and less than an hour outside milan by train is wonderful lake como, sitting on the edge of the lake near bellagio in late september is something everyone should do once

i wasn't all that impressed with verona

    Sorry to hijack the thread.
I have been ro both Rome and Milan was also wondering what other city in Italy would be nice to visit for a weekend away. TBH I don't think I would like Venice with all the canals

Florence is really nice, i enjoyed florence more than rome but i think Bologna sound great (never been), cant wait to go plus accomadation seems alot nicer and less expensive in Bologna than most other cities.

What did u think about milan, ive been getting mixed reviews!
Flights to Italy are very reasonable at the moment.

    Hi,

I thought Milan was okay. I went in July 2 years ago and the heat was something else. Its a very busy city and the people can appear rude sometimes but if you were never their before its worth at lest going to once. As someone mentioned already lake Como is within reach on the train and is well worth the trip

2 days is fine but you could certainly fill another few days if you have longer. Its not in the same league as florence, milan, rome or venice in terms of 'things to see' but has a great vibe for eating, chilling, drinking and 'people watching'.

Its also close (enough) to the likes of parma and verona if you have a car and fancy a day trip.
