Was out last night with my son for a bit of lamping. Set off @11.30 and quickly came across 2 out far enough and one came in to my sons calling to about 50y.
But at the same time a herd of cows also came a calling up to the gate dividing the fields. No way would they move away or aside so all we could do was watch as the fox walked on by without a care in the world as my son just could/would not take the shot. The other fox stayed well away, so it was time to move on.

We both walked on couple of fields away from the first encounter and we could see a pair of eyes looking back at us. This cheeky dog fox just sat and watched as we made our way nearer to him. He was sitting in the tram tracks and @65y he took a Hornaday 55gr VMax to the front side and dropped on the spot.

After a wait without seeing anything more we drove to another farm about 2 miles on. On arriving up the track there was this vixen in the pickups headlights looking up into a tree. It did not mind us or the 4x4 but was more intrested in what ever was in the tree.
At 50y another 55gr VMax hit her in the side and down she went.

We saw about 5 more last night but not to shoot. And plenty of rabbits about as well which is good to see.
The LED torches we used are working well for us and although only good to 200y ish they more than make up for any loss of light in being portable and light-weight.

nice shooting, glad to hear the lights are going well, i must buy a lamp, would you recommend them, do ye scan the field first with a lamp and use the torches to finish

The present setup is 3 torches. 1 each when we are in the 4x4 mooching along the farm lanes - driver and passenger. The other is for use on my scope but we didn't use it last night as we were using the sons .223.
Yes I would give them the thumbs up. We scan the field with the torches, see the eyes at 200y+, and also use them to light up the fox for the shot, they can be seen through the scope easily @150y. The lightforce 170 is still the best to use but this is looking like a good second best setup for us to use.

By the way we take it in turns to shoot so the young lad got the first dog fox.

My CZ varmint .223 with one of the torches attached to the scope.

48" XXL varmint barrel for those extra long shots out past 2000m. It's grouping well into the next county.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
