    hi everyone,
just bought myself an 04 bmw 320cd in england at a price i could not refuse. i was reading a lot about the potential problems that these cars can have. The potential problems that i read about are as follows

swirl flaps breaking and destroying the engine so they should be taken out.
egr valve can get clogged and turbo can fail so needs to be kept clean
crankcase breather filter needs to be changed every 20000 Miles or use the vortex filter which does not require servicing.
Change air filter every 10000 Miles
Change oil and oils filter every 6000 miles
Car should be left idle after hard drive to cool engine for a minute or two.

Anyway my original question was should i look out for anything else that i have not included on the list above as im pretty good at maintaining my car when i know what to look out for. Thanks everyone

i know it might be obvious to you but some people might think it is a bmw with a cd player instead of a tapedeck :)

swirl flaps, turbo, cat, exhaust manifold would be pretty much guaranteed to need replacement before 140k miles.

I have pioritised getting the swirl flaps removed, could you explain why the cat and exhaust manifold would need to be changed tho. Would the cat not be fine as long as the turbo was kept in good shape. also why do you think the manifold itself should be changed

Im not suggesting to change them as a preventative measure. Im suggesting that they will most likely fail somewhere between 100 & 140k miles. The manifold cracks leaving you with no choice but to replace & the cat fails too with varying failures.... blockages etc
