might regret this but here goes:- tesco currently clearing a range of red wine, "tavernello" sangiovese is in a 75cl tetrapak and is selling at €2 !!
i bought two yesterday in tesco dun laoghaire on the basis 'nothing ventured.." and was pleasently surprised..so much so that i have to keep checking the spelling..

    tetrapak

    well spotted.
note also, and possibly crucially- €2.
you could purchase muck in a bottle for between €4 and €5 any day of the week.. this stuff is grand..for €2.
there are arguments about the relative merits of cork v twist top bottle, but at the end of the day......€2!!!!!
even if u only use it for cooking!

Don't mean to take the p*ss (;)) but tetrapak, not really what one would drink in the park?

But some of us health and safety boozers would happily pay 2 euro for
    such a bargain.../ No officer, it's a smoothie:D

Get a few of these and when some "wine snobs" come to your house, put the wine into a carafe or an empty good wine bottle and see what they think!!

Once they've gulped a couple of bottles, ask them their opinions & then bring out a carton of the stuff to top up their glasses.:D:D:D

And slightly off-topic, here in Barcelona my local 'Consum' supermarket was selling own-label 1L tetrapaks of a red wine for... 19 cents.

    I gave them a miss, though they'd probably make a good drain-unblocker...

is this a French wine?? If so, can a €2 bottle really hit the back of the net??? :)

Some other 'Clearance' wines in my local Tesco, I bought two - a Torres tempranillo (5e) and an antinori chianti (6e) - both drinkable. Its always a risk buying 'cheap' wine but they are two very reputable wine producers!

Saw some of these in Merrion.

    They were stamped with 29/9/2009:confused:

I couldnt figure out if that was

    a. Date of filling
    b. Best before date
    c. Just a random date meaning nothing much at all

    So I left them there

( pity in a way as if worst came to worst would probably have been OK for cooking )

If you can't drink it, don't cook with it

(probably a filling date - worth a punt)

    2 bottles of Tesco Demi Sec Medium Cava (was €14.99 - now 2 X €10 !!) = €10
    3 Bottles of Calloways Crossing - Cab Shiraz (was €8.99 - now €4) = €12
1 Bottle of 2005 Tesco Finest San Juan Estate Shiraz (was €9.99 - now €5) = €5 (just bought 1 bottle to try it ... Im going back for more of this - it's lovely)

    Total : €27 - 5% for buying 6 bottles = €25.65 :D:cool:

Eh, I don't want to be pedantic but your maths don't add up.

Given that the post was 2 months old does it really matter?

    eh , sorry mate the math does add up ... €10 + €12 + €5 = €27 less 5% (€1.35) = €25.65 - so that makes you almost 2 months late and wrong. Give up being pedantic ... it's not your Forté

    Since when is 2 x €10 = €10? Did you maybe mean 2 for €10 instead?

You are wrong "mate", and I'm not pedantic either, so you're wrong on that one as well.

    And yeah, I don't always look at a post's date, so I commented on one that's 2 month old - big deal.

Therefore being pedantic isn't your frote .. let it go. You were wrong, it's ok ...now deep breath .. and exhale .......

Are these types of offers only available in selected stores? They never seem to be available when I go to Nutgrove Tesco?

Of course I might just be going too late and missing out
