Job offered?

Hi, on Thursday last week I went for an interview, which in my opinion went well, on Friday at 10 am the agency rang me and told me I have the job, but if I can canx my holidays, which was no problem, I said I will, so she said I'll give you a call later on to give you info on when to start etc. She did ring me 6 hours later to tell me that unfortunately I didn't actually get the position and that the company decided to offer it to someone else more suitable, after being told at 10 am that they were very happy with me, that my personality will suite the company very well, and that I am exactly what they were looking for. Happy days I said, and was ready to go tell the SW to canx my UB as I have a position, luckily I said I shall wait until Monday at least.

I am just devastated and I couldn't stop crying Friday and Saturday after the news, needless to say I have been unemployed 11 and a half months now, so my UB is going to be finishing soon.

Can anyone actually do this, offer a job and then take it back, I know I have not signed anything and fair enough, but its just so so mean and down right rude!???!

Don't think there's much you can do unfortunately, the company will probably hide behind the agency / blame it on them, so as not to take responsibility.

Happened me once with a temp job I had applied for. I turned up at the company and they were surprised to see me. I was told to wait in reception. They got the recruitment agency to call me and tell me the job was being filled internally, and I was not needed. Wouldn't even come out and explain it to me face to face. Not sure who was at fault but it was a right f*ck-up. Didn't care too much as jobs were plentiful back in those days and I got a new job in a better company pretty soon after.

Still, complain bitterly to the agency about it - they might try harder to find you a job now if they feel guilty about letting you down like that.

    Best of luck.

I am just devastated and cannot believe that she didn't make sure I either have the job or not. It got me all worked up and ahhh I am just devastated and sick just thinking about her getting my hopes up and then letting them crash, not that its any of her business. But couldn't believe that it happened, and OMG I was the happiest woman that day, well until 4 pm that evening.

She felt really sorry for causing this from her speaking to me but still that doesn't help me what so ever. I don't think I can guilt trip them into getting me a job sooner! I wish I could.

    Thanks for the reply though.

@moses7 I don't think I can name them for legal reasons, and from what I know they already took their competition to court a few years back, I am sure you probably know who I am talking about by now. And I thought they were brilliant.

anyway good luck finding the perfect job. It is out there and if not, then what about creating it yourself? I know it is hard, but always worth trying something on your own.

Believe it or not I am not even looking for the perfect job, I am just looking for a job! And thanks I hope I will find something in the end. I was actually thinking of starting something within HR!

That suuuuucks!! My heart goes out to you, it really does. I'd write a letter of complaint (if only to make myself feel better) if I was you. Keep the chin up, things WILL get better.

Thanks, I guess chin up and I've just got to get on with it. ;) I don't even want to go down the road of making a complain it will probably be tossed in the junk mail folder or in the bin. Karma still works, so what goes around, comes around.
