Shouldn't all insurance 'write-off's' be disclosed?

It's an ongoing problem that the system for recording vehicle 'write-offs' in Ireland is way behind that of the UK. Across the water, all categories of write-off are recorded on the MIAFTR database and made available to car history providers where it can be included in their car history reports.

In Ireland, categories other than A & B are not reported to the department of transport and providers like Motorcheck are faced with the impossible task of recording additional write off information privately.

I've written about the current system here http://www.motorcheck.ie/insurance-writeoff-category-classification but would appreciate the views of boards.ie members on how best to tackle this.

Should we continue to lobby Government & Insurance companies or is there a better way?

Best to mention that I'm not against certain categories of 'write off' going back on the road once they're properly certified. It's the lack of information available to the buyer that concerns me.
