Road width

I'm doing a bit of modelling and wondering

whats the width of an average urban road. Something like a 2 lane road such as Rochestown Avenue in Killiney? just the road width. about 2 metres per lane?

also whats an average footpath width, 1.5m or so?

Are you comparing The road widths in Cabinteely to Killiney?
Why not measure the road and path width where you are?

I'd go with 1.2m path and 6m road.

I'd say Caraway is on the mark. 5-6m for a model.

One thing you should note is that the TMG are aspirational and site constraints play a huge part in determining the form of urban roads.

I thought it would be common knowledge to someone here so asked rather than risk standing in the middle of a busy road

Urban road widths vary, I guess you wanted to know about new urban or suburban roads being built, which would be more likely to be built to a reasonably common standard.

Generally lane widths are 3m, wider on major routes (3.5/3.75 on motorways for example)

Usually road marking lines are about 100mm so the road might be 6.3m or a bit more as there is usually a gutter inside the yellow lines.

The road might be wider again if there's some allowance for parking, turning lane etc.
