    Hi

Have a 01 Transit 2.4 350 90PS and when its cold it idle's quite rough and cuts out. Not a problem when the van is warm, only cold.

Anyone got any ideas as to what this would be?

The advance solenoid on the pump gives trouble on these.

Saw one recently that was the other way round, perfect when cold but once it warmed up it developed a bad diesel knock.

IIRC the solenoid is about €180 but I could be wrong

I was going to saying the timing solenoid as well, they are going for £90 on ebay so in Ireland you can pretty much double that! Maybe 1 and a half - 2 hours labour.

My Puma was barely idling after I got the engine timing belt changed. The moment the revs dropped below 1000rpm, it'ld just cut out. Turned out the idle control valve wasn't working. Got a new one and now it idles precisely at 900rpm all the time.

Thanks guys. Is it worth trying to source one of these from a breakers, or would I be better off with a new one?

Also, I've seen a lot of chatter about blanking the EGR valve on these vans. What difference does it make to the van, and is it worth doing? Does it cause problems with the DOE?

Your better off buying a new one, don't waste your money and time getting a second hand one solenoid, trust me! The EGR on them rarely gives trouble only on the newer ones it does, if you blanked it up it would fail the DOE and brings on the engine management light I think.
@af_thefragile, his is a diesel engine, no need for an idle speed control valve.
