hi lads. i got the new rifle this week.:D 223 remington 700
impressed with the scope. burris 4-16x44

does any 1 know the barrell twist on this and what ammo works best? maybe save me a few pound trying different rounds.
have tried winchester 55gr and they seem fine, but not cheap at 18e per 20

Should be 1/12 looks to be a VSSF II 55grain or 40 works really well.

I prefer Hornady V-max Moly coated, barrel is as clean as a nuns knickers after hundreds of rounds.

its not hard google remington mate for all the specifications
    here ya go http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-vs-sf-ii.aspx

18 euro for 20 isnt bad i had a savage in .223 american eagle 50g fired very well from it at 12 euro a box
i spent around 100 euro the first day i bought it on different brands of bullets to see which suited best
dont see the point spendin all the money on the rifle then crib about the bullets
a little research before hand on this very site would of got ya a lot of answers

They are a great rifle, you probably got a good deal on it too, I have seen them sold for €250 less than what i paid for it!

I switched a .22lr for my my Remmy and i never looked back!

Perfect day out for it today.

I might go for a shot now before I head into work!

55grain is the optimum weight in that twist, anything heavier I found your groups widen.

Some guys prefer the 40 grain for flatter shooting, but I found the 55 handle the wind better

I have a remington 700 in .223, I find the V-max a great round but for cheaper firing as one of the other posts said American Eagles are good too but dont get the "BOAT TAIL" rounds as they DONT suit the remmy 700 make sure and get the "FLAT BASE" rounds. What I like about the remy 700 is that pretty much everything can be upgraded if you want to, from stock, trigger, feckin everything!!!

BTW thats a lovely looking rifle, best of luck with it !!!

depends how far you want to send her out to..... the cheap stuff is ok up to a certain distance, i found the cheap **** got me out to 200yds and after that... where they landed was anyones guess.... i've heard the federal premium are a good round to.... but every bit as dear as the hornady's

Around €27 but worth every penny as they are very consistant. They group very well which means your probability of hitting increases.

Gowan and Bradshaw are the sole Importers , but they wholesale to most good RFD's.
Any dealer I know in the whest sells them :D

smashing looking rig you got there well wear...
the best thing about buying a nice rifle like that is the time you spend with it getting to know how it shoots and what she likes to eat.

buy as many different rounds as you can and spend the day shooting groups, allowing plenty of time between each 3 shot group you fire.
its the only way you will know what suits your rifle;)
    enjoy the shootin

last day i was in lakelands shooting grounds in mullingar they were onely 11 or 12 euro a box, go to irishguntrader.ie and look in ammo in sportsden.ie its 11.99, i've paid 32 euro a box and it was rubbish, i think anything between 40 and 55 grain, have fired 75g boat tail hollow points had more damage with american eagle 50g. an older guy with a lot of gun told me if you go over 55 or 60g in a 1/12 your in trouble, best of luck to you.

    Nod to the wise ;)

Rebarrel your .17 Rem with a .223 barrel. You'll find it hard to get a dealer to take a 17 Rem in a trade and if they do they'll rape ya

Be cheaper to rebarrel what you have as it's the same bolt face for both ;)

If you are in the midlands Call to Figgy in Athlone, if you are in the South east i hear green is good.

Either way rebarrel seems the way to go.

A Trueflite will give you serious accuracy and cheaper ammo.
I will have a remmmy VSSF II .223 barrel for sale soon.

    €200 and it's yours ;)

Custom barrels are going for approx €300 from my enquiries, not sure what makes though ;) Fitting on top of this too ............ +€600 and you'd be on a winner, cost ya that to trade anyway ;)

    trueflie 28" .224 €540 + fitting.

A remmy VSSF II barrel I hope to get €200 for, which would leave my match barrel €400 ~ Fitted

Fluting is extra, but there is as much pro as against on fluting.
So i am voting with my pocket.
