Wing mirror hit off someone elses yesterday - Potential rust?

    Hi,
I took off the damaged wing mirror and I'm going to try and get a replacement at a breakers yard but I'm concerned where the paint has cracked (see pics). I'm not sure if I need to treat the cracks around the holes where the bolts go through or not.

Any thoughts? This is my first time doing a job like this but I'm a DIY type.

Treating the cracks is certainly a good idea.
Use some sandpaper to rub off any loose flakes and then use some zink paint / zink primer and paint it all up.

As the area will be covered, you won't need to achieve an expert finish

If your really worried take off the bits of broken paint and spray with primer/paint. Or if your lazy, you could just cover it with grease, should have same effect.

Proper anti rust primer would be best but I presume* if you had a tin of Hammerite or some other anti-rust paint knocking around it would do too

*random internet opinion - I'd be happy using it on an out of sight area on my sh1tbox, but maybe your car is worth more than mine....

Thanks for the replies. I'll pick up some rust primer then as I've to go to the motor factors this week anyway.
