Do you know by any chance if they do cellulose painting?
As I don't have the required equiment for 2k paint, and it is too dangerous.

    Cheers

Based in Monkstown Farm, I have dealt with them over the years, very professional, know their stuff and never had hassle with colour mismatches etc.

No, cellulose and most 2K paint have been outlawed here for well over a year, you might still be able to get some straight colours 2K but all 2K lacquers "clears" are banned. Water based paints are now the standard. You might get away with spraying in this weather but normally it would involve specialist drying equipment, air blowers etc.

You might be able to pick up older paint up north, but that’s not guaranteeing that it has exceeded its shelf life

Superfly, You CAN still buy cellulose paint. It was not outlawed completely. The EU decided that it could still be sold for painting older cars. They then decided to leave it up to each country to sort out what sort of system of licensing to use, eg. would every user need a licence, or just sellers.
Ireland has not yet come up with a system (probably never will) so the motor factors, and paint distributors, will just tell you that it is banned.

    You can get it very reasonably from this crowd in the north;
    Wilson, Lendrum & Weir Ltd.
They are in Enniskillen and their number is 048 66322720

    Here's a link to their ebay site so you can see colours and prices;
    http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Car-Workshop-consumables

They will send paint to S. Ireland but you will have to phone them.
Just ring and ask to talk to Ethan in the paint department. They usually charged me £8 for shipping with Fastway couriers.

I have resprayed an MG and 2 Minis using cellulose from them and had no problems. PM me if you need any more info.

This is a super news mgbgt1978!!
Because I want to get into a bit of painting ;) I have a van in need restoration, and 3 car projects so the body paint shop is not an good financial option !

I m try to determine the type of paint use on my Porsche 924, on a identification plate it is written enamo. Does this mean the paint is enamel ?

I m really new in this trade so forgive me if I don't know much about it ;)

I would be very surprised if a porsche 924 was factory-painted in enamel.
If it's a solid colour (not metallic) then it will either be cellulose or 2-pack.
Cellulose should go over either without a problem.

The problem with celly is not obtaining the stuff, but the price. Last time I bought some the price was quite steep.

The ban was for use as an automotive finish. "I'm painting me boat".

It's a bit like leaded petrol. Still available in the UK in small quantities = very expensive stuff.

How is cellulose paint expensive ????
Cellulose 5 litres €79.50 inc delivery
Water-Based 1/2 litre €45.00 from local motor factors (doing me a favour on price). Lacquer then needed.
The cellulose is then thinned 50/50, giving you twice as much again...
...I know the thinners evaporates but so does the water in water-based paint.

As I have already said cellulose paint WAS NOT completely outlawed, it is still possible to purchase it for use on older cars.

Well based on the address mgbgt1978 gave to us it seems a good price too me.
If I can respray my car for €100 it is happy days :D

I will try to find out if my car is a metallic, I am a bit colorblind so I have problem to see color properly. I know it wouldn't help for the painting

Thanks a million again, you make the day with that news.

Paint law is a mess... You can get any type of paint legally and hassle free.
But some of the types of paint are illegal to use through the spray gun or/and in automotive industry. There are exemptions and you can still use some of the 'banned paints' on cars which qualify as classic and vintage and 'for industrial use', whatever that means.
Not quite sure about cellulose as this paint is illegal to spray, but you can paint away with yer paintbrush.

2K and solvent based paints are perfectly legal to use as long as the final mix have VOC level under or equal to the prescribed standard /water based clear ?/, somebody makes a fortune on the water based paints, which aren't as harmless as we've been told and there are 2K and solvent based paints out there which have lower VOC level than water based.

But here's the catch, it is illegal to use any sprayable substance without proper and compliant filtration and ventilation system. And paint suppliers should have file with addresses of all of their customers, so the EPA could track us down and see if our garages and sheds do comply with the environmental protection stuff ;)
Whether this is done or not is another story

To cut long story short, get solvents and spray it with solvents, easier, quicker and more durable finish. :D
