Not sure if it's ever happens but what if it's still a draw after extra time?

Having a chat with a friend (neither of us are really proper GAA fans) about the Cork Kerry match the other day. Don't know what would have happened had a point been scored to equalise in extra time? Penalties?

    Ta.

Another replay. Fairly sure it happened in the Leinster minor championship between Dublin and Kildare last month.
And look up the Meath - Dublin 4 game saga from 1991.

    What about the qualifiers though?

With some of the rounds being played (I think) on consecutive weekends, there's not much scope for replays. I imagine they would just play another shorter period of extra time (like 5 mins each half). Would be interesting to see what happens if it was still level after that aswell, I wonder what provisions have they in place for that type of scenario? Midweek replay I suppose?

2 halves of 5 minutes each, after which a replay
Subject to the provisions of Rule 3.5, if a
game in a knock-out competition ends in a
draw, teams may, by consent, play extra time
consisting of two periods of ten minutes each
way, which extra time shall be obligatory in the
case of a further draw in a replay.
    (b) Where extra time is to be played in the
Competitions designated in Rule 3.5 below,
it shall consist of two periods of extra time of
ten minutes each way, and, if necessary, two
further periods of extra time of five minutes
    each way.
3.5 Where the Committee in Charge makes a
decision prior to the start of a Competition,
extra time shall be obligatory in the
    following competitions - Inter-County Senior
    Championships (excluding the Provincial and
All Ireland Semi Finals and Finals), Inter-County
    Under 21 Championships (excluding All-Ireland
    Finals), Inter-County Minor Championships
(excluding the Provincial and All-Ireland Finals),
    Inter-County Intermediate Hurling, Inter-County
Junior Hurling and Football, the knock-out
stages of the National Leagues, Interprovincial
    Competitions, Oireachtas and other Inter-
    County Tournaments, Inter-Club Provincial
    and All-Ireland Championships (excluding the
Provincial and All-Ireland Senior Finals), the
Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups, and any other
    games in subsidiary competitions
3.6 If a game in a knock-out Club Competition at
underage, up to and including Minor, ends in a
draw, two periods of extra-time of ten minutes
    each shall be played.
Exception - Extra time is not mandatory in
the first game of County Minor Championship
    Finals.
3.7 In extra time, an interval not exceeding five
minutes shall be allowed at half time, during
which time teams shall remain on the field of
    play.

A few years there was a colleges match decided by penalties after at least 2 periods of extra time. Pity, because a 45 kick off would is a far better test of skill and doesn't involve the winning team cheating!

Played in a British final a few years ago. It had to be settled on the days due to teams travelling to the venue. Draw after two 10 minute halves of extra time. We had to play four extra five minute halves to seperate the teams. We won in the end:D

Personally I always thought it was better to leave it to a replay, we have amateur sports where players train for 70 minutes of championship, extra time only leads to mistakes, I would prefer to see 2 teams try to beat each other rather than have 1 fade away.

But now that people have second chances and back doors you can't have every weekend taken up with replays, I think first round games should have replays, replays can go to 1 period of extra time, back door games should have 1 period of extra time then replays, after that 5 minutes extra time both ways until there's a winner if extra time is needed in the replays

I also amn't a fan of frees deciding a game, I think that the ball should be placed on the 21 yard line with the attacker allowed anywhere behind that, the defender can be anywhere inside the 14 yard line, once the attacker touches the ball they have 5 seconds to play the play and do what they want with it, only thing is they have to catch it before taking a shot.

Sorry Clareman, couldn't agree with you less. 5 seconds would be impossible to judge in that situation.

You also don't want it to be too long, it'd be a great specticle, all you'd need is a big stop watch with a hooter on it that starts as soon as the ball is touched.

Of course, the time could be changed to something more suitable, that's what trials are for, although sometimes in the GAA you'd swear that trials are there to show people that silly ideas won't work......

I was at a Sigerson Cup game back in 2006 between Sligo IT and UUJ Jordanstown which was decided on penalties after it had been a draw after extra time.

Wonder about Kildare Antrim on Sat night. See there are lights on Casement Park so it could go on all night.

What ever about what should happen after extra-time all drawn matches should go to extra-time rather than a replay. Its nothing more than a money making racket. With both Galway teams being involved in replays its an expensive hobby for me following them rather than just deciding the games on the day with extra-time.
