I am a cupcake junkie, love making them!

I make kick ass buttercream but colouring is my issue...how can you make WHITE buttercream...I try to make blue and because butter is yellow......it goes green....I would love a bluebell kind of colour :( tempted to use TREX but scared it will be greasy and yik!

It is possible to buy a powder or liquid food colouring, which brightens the white colour. Wilton, squires kitchen and kitchen compliments stock this.

Also, using clear vanilla extract can help, and lots of people agree that using shortening instead of butter makes it whiter, but I'm with you, buttercream needs butter!!

I find that if I beat the buttercream for long enough it turns white.
