    I wouldn't buy a used one, and I wouldn't pay more than €150. But that's just me.

€156 on eBay - delivered (from the UK), or €145 delivered from the US (possible VAT charges).

I've had terrible problems getting stuff delivered from Pixmania (ie. stuff just got lost) and it took months to sort out the cc refund. I think they are based in France, though the problem apparently was An Post here.

Last year i ordered from pixmania, and because an post lost it, i had to send enails and spend money on the phone with pixmania customer care for 3 MONTHS.
Was the most horible experience ever...
Last week, i ordered another product ( for a friend of mine ) and was delivered in 3 days. Looks like they deliver with fedex, now, so there's a big chance for the items not to get lost.
If it's lost between shipping from france and your door, than you're in deep s**t.

I picked mine up from http://www.elara.ie/ paid slightly more about 180/90 but no shipping as you can arrange pickup. Handy as they are based in parkwest.

I bought one earlier this year and now have a 3 page list of places it can't find. It just gets worse and worse.

Downloaded "Garmin Communicator" to try and team it up with Google Maps which I find excellent and free and what do you know? It doesn't work in Ireland.

The support is terrible, the web site worse. It too more than 3 weeks to get the first reply ("we try and answer all queries within 3 days") and they haven't bothered responding to the follow ups at all.

I think you may be referring to a Garmin Nuvi / navigation type device (best discussed on the GPS forum). Forerunners are not designed to find addresses at all, or support google maps (except through Garmin Connect).

I do agree with you though, finding addresses in a Garmin navigation-based GPS is an art-form in itself, though I usually manage it myself somehow. Have you tried ringing support in the UK?

I'm in the usa and mine doesnt work with google maps either, it works with Google Earth.

But wait... a Garmin 305 just tracks your runs, its not for finding addresses???

The 305 isn't often sold in brick and mortar shops any longer having been superseded by a couple of models, so amazon or eBay are your best bets (eBay is cheaper). You shouldn't need to pay any shipping on Amazon.co.uk by the way. Sterling has strengthened against the euro recently though, making these far more expensive. Take a look at eBay.com (US site) as the dollar is still moderately weak (risk of import taxes/VAT).

I bought the Garmin 205 from this company. Found them very easy to deal with. ( And delighted with my Garmin)

A quick warning for the OP. Do NOT on any account purchase ANYTHING from Pixmania!!! If for some reason you need to return the item, you will run into massive problems = the site says the company accepts returns and gives refunds, but it doesn't! Items get 'lost in post', items are weeks late in arriving. Just steer clear. :)

And yes, I do have experience of Pixmania's 'customer service', not as a customer but as a retailer...

Don't know about that to be honest with you, have bought maybe 10 items or so from Pixmania this year without any delays.
Also they sent out a replacement plug for the powerwasher I purchased without issue.

    Maybe you were unlucky?

Haven't had to be involved with their customer service so can't comment on it but I ordered that Garmin on pixmania last Monday evening, it was delivered Wednesday evening and I didn't pay the extra for speedy delivery. Well happy with myself!

I'm interested in buying the 205 (dont want HRM), What price would I expect to pay and how do they compare with the 305.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,550 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

Pretty close to identical, however, I understand they they use an older GPS chipset than the 305 (I could be wrong), so you might find it takes longer to 'aquire'. Also, I wouldn't imagine these have been manufactured in a long time, so any stocks you find will likely have been sitting in shops etc. for quite some time (don't imagine that this would impact the health of the battery, but you never know). Might be as well off buying the 305, and sticking the HRM on eBay.

If you want a price guide go have a look at Amazon (.co.uk and .com) and ebay (.co.uk and .com).

Thanks KC, I will pay the bit extra and go for the 305...
