Is it possible to encourage bats into an area?

Hello all,

I have a bat question. I own a piece of land, and along the length of that piece of land runs a small mixed wood with a small stream in it.

It can become unbearable with midges on my bit of land. And I know bats eats lots of midges a night, up to 3,000 I think.

Is there a practical way to encourage bats into the wood or onto my land? I know the owner of the wood wouldn't mind. I'm not sure if there are bats already present to be honest.

What about putting up plenty of bat boxes, if they have a safe place to roost they might stay in an area.

there can be a half million per square meter ,your going to want a lot of bats.

If you're not sure if there are bats in the area already, you could try and contact your local branch of Bat Conservation Ireland. There's almost certainly someone near you who could give advice, and maybe survey the area with a detector to see whether there are bats already there and if so, what species.
