I'm currently in the process of looking to buy the panasonic lumix fz38 bridge camera but I'm also looking to buy a decent memory card for it...

I'm thinking of buying an 8gb card so i can pretty much leave it in the camera all the time and always have extra memory left over but i really am getting lost between which card to buy.. there's just such a wide disparity between prices and card types and card classes etc etc etc

read this article here and just made me wonder what do I actually need http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10246593-1.html

can anyone just recommend a card for me that will write the pictures to the camera at a pretty fast speed...

Buy a TDK 8GB (Class 8) in Tesco for about €15 at the moment. Careful though 'cause they have Class 6 for about €13 too. You don't want that. You'll get one cheaper online I'm sure, but it just depends on how soon you need it.

i'm in no rush at all - i just want to buy one that doesn't turn out to be awful and i'll have to end up buying another one...
i don't like spending money and having to end up getting another because i didn't do my research first lol... i've got the good cavan blood in my veins still so ;)

do you mind telling me what's wrong with the class 6 one you have compared to what the class 8 will offer... because according to that article i quoted a lot of the classes are actually not that important and don't often work like they claim to work

The SanDisk Extreme IV is the best at the moment, I reckon.
But the III version is still VERY good by current standards - pick one up if you can!

Edit: Found the Extreme II here. It's 15MB/sec which is quite good! If you don't need that speed, I wouldn't pay the 60 bob for it and go for something a little tamer!

I bought the class 8, so couldn't say for the TDK 6. I do have a older san disk class 6 though and a new TDK 8. I've found my Canon S90 slower to write JPEG and RAW on the class 6. The new TDK is far more swift for the day to day stuff I do.
