Ah don't insult him poverty spec focus indeed.

I love the look of the 159 those lights are class.

There are a few on carzone for 11000 and under, go for it, I don't think the build quality is as bad as they used to be.

    You need performance?style?MPG monster? 4door/2door?

    any info will help ;)

i wount comment on alfa quality, i am sure there will be a good few people to explain you... thought if you really really whant it, then just go for it.

I like the 159 and the Brera, though the Brera is holding its value in a very un-Alfa manner. How about the Alfa GT?
I just bought an old Alfa 156 as a daily driver, despite every single turbo hose and numerous other bits requiring immediate replacement (nothing different than a Passat TDI of the same vintage), Im liking it so far.

If you dont mind performance the 1.8 159 is a very reliabe engine, its a GM unit used in lots of other makes. The 159 is a solid car. If you are anyway performance inclined you need the 1.9 150bhp diesel.

I've decided my next car is going to be either a 159 or a Brera. Depends on how much I can afford.

Yes they're not perfect cars but god they're pretty!!!

If I was gonna buy an Alfa, my first preference would be the V6 petrol Alfa engine. But of course, funds are always limited so I would consider settling for one the excellent FIAT diesel engines.

But to have a small four pot Opel engine in my Alfa. NFW :(

You sure the 1.8l petrol is an Opel engine, not the Alfa twin spark? I know the 2.2l petrol is Opel alright...

I was hoping to do the same this year but couldn't afford either of the type I wanted

Went for a GT instead and am very happy with it

Will aim for a Brera next though

It's a GM block with an Alfa JTS head, in much the same way that the 16v Twin Sparks were all Fiat blocks with Alfa heads.

Yep in the 159 it's the GM 1.8MPi engine. A good (but dull) engine. The twin spark 1.8 is/was still being used in the GT but not the 159. A V6 petrol 159 is prohibitive I'm afraid!

Once you own a V6 Alfa, you'll just going to keep it at the redline and grin like an idiot :D I`m only settling with a TwinSpark right now, but my next alfa is going to be a V6

You'll have to move fast because the "real" alfa V6 is geting sparse!

Have had two 1.9 16V JTDm's and they have been excellent. Third one on the way..

Build quality is good, inside is a nice place to be, get leather, its worth it.
Blue&Me works very well, Text reader is cool, but would be nice to change the voice to something more sultry :D...

They can be hard on Tyres, but you soon forget about that when driving :D

1.8 engine is a bit weedy imo, as the 159 is heavy, but its ok...

Best of luck in the Hunt...:)

OP I went for a 159 1.9 JTDM in March, my first alfa  don't believe what people who've never been in one say about build quality, reliability etc, mine is a fantastic, solid bus, and I do 1000km a week, I'd highly recommend one, it's just a lovely place to be in! :)
