As far as i can see on their site they only serve the US. They don't seem to have an email to query but i only want to stream online (as apposed to having dvds mailed).

Anyway to do it or any other good service (if they do tv series even better)

You could invest in a good US VPN (such as strongvpn or tuvpn), and use netflix, or, even better, hulu.com. A VPN such as that would cost around €10 or so a month (I use tuvpn myself and it works perfectly).

Using a VPN is legally questionable given that Hulu and Netflix only have a license to broadcast in the United States. Broadcasts to europe, in whatever form, are a breach of copyright.

Its a fantastic business model, but one that will take time to be set up in Ireland when such companies make deals with the Studios and the Irish RIAA (if thats the right name for them) edit: IRMA

Fair point. I wonder if that's only to US IP addresses? Surely they're aware that these VPN services are purchased by people for these reasons?

I doubt they care. You'll always be able to get around the system if you try hard enough. If people start pressurizing them because of it then they start shutting them or implimenting new ways of cutting them off. Sure -http://torrentfreak.com/huge-security-flaw-makes-vpns-useless-for-bittorrent-100617 while i'm not sure on the specifics i'm sure there are ways of finding out

Netflix and Hulu don't care as long as they aren't at fault. I just don't think it wise to broadcast that kind of idea around. Nevermind the idea of prosecution but of clampdown on it.

Then RTE Player is all you have available to you.
Using a US service in Ireland requires pretending to be in the US. It's at the very least a breach of the terms of service under which the provider operates, and is probably breaking quite a few copyright laws too. All of which are civil legal issues. Most people don't get bothered about that stuff.
However, S.2 of the Criminal Damage Act 1991 could possibly apply if the service provider (netflix, hulu, cbs etc) filed a complaint that you were accessing their systems without authorisation. It's not likely to happen, but it would be easy to prove if they did.

Its desperate that none of these services cover Ireland. Does anyone know what their barriers to entry are?
Although I do notice if you have an apple TV ( uncracked) you can rent movies through that. Only drawback is you have to tolerate iTunes.

Royalties. Licensing. Economics. Market Fixing. Take your pick. Movie publishers are already kinda pissed they agreed to let Netflix grow so big that it's almost overshadowed the entire notion of buying DVDs. BluRay and DVD extras are about the only thing keeping movies on the shelf right now. And even those are available through Netflix's mail service. Some movie companies are already denying requests to let Netflix license their movies for online streaming, I dont think they have enough control to block them from mail-in though. All the same, the whole thing pretty much terrifies them. They'll stop internet tv in europe so long as they are still making a killing there in DVD and BluRay and Ticket sales.

If you have upc you could subscribe to skymovies,or get a satellite dish for sky,i doubt the movie studios would want netflix to setup in ireland.
They never thought it would be so sucessful, its like the music industry with itunes .
when a company makes a service easy to use at the right price people will use it.

It’s been a long time coming but looks like Netflix will be coming to Ireland early next year. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/oct/24/netflix-uk-launch-2012?newsfeed=true
