1000 SEL

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

a Middle-East customer from Styling Garage ordered himself a heavily modified Mercedes 500SEL. When he received the keys he told the owner of the company, Chris Hahn, that his car was twice as good as a regular 500SEL and he'd like to have a different badge on the car. Well there you have it: 500SEL x 2 = 1000SEL. It should be mentioned that most of the 1000SEL conversions were sold to customers in the Middle-East.

I hope they're really enjoying their black gold as long as they can. The party will soon be over though and I won't shed a tear...

I knew even before I read this that the Arabs would be the only customers of this!

Had one of these in the mid 90's in Germany, Jag V12 with an Arden bodykit. The bodykit was falling to pieces but I fixed it up a bit and it held for the 3 months I needed it. It had a moderatley tuned engine but apart from the steering wheel and upgraded stereo the interior was stock Jaguar.

I got it off a workmates father, technically it was in top condition, drove it to Libya and back, was there for 5 weeks on holidays, great road trip. Happy days indeed.

Great site by the way, wasn't just the Arabs, there were a lot of wild conversions in Germany in the late 80's and early 90's when I was there, big change to looking at MF 135's at home anyway!:pac:

I remember a white 1000SEL used to be parked in a driveway on the Howth Road near the junction with Kilbarrick Roadback in the early 90's.
    Anyone else rememeber it?

Ah those Arabs, more money than the know what to do with!
    This comes to mind.

Created in the mid 1990s, this 1950's Dodge Power Wagon replica weighs in at about 50 tons. It is said to be the largest car/truck in the world. It's so big that it houses four air conditioned bedrooms, a living room and a bathroom. It even has a motorized tailgate that drops down to become a terrace.
Although it was not designed for road travel, it was built with a 300HP GM diesel engine that helps it move around on its own. The truck is owned by Seikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, and the video is from Jeremy Clarkson's Motorworld television series that aired on BBC back in the mid 1990s.
While most reports indicate the truck is 64 times larger than the original, that is clearly a stretch. But what can't be argued, however, is this truck is big... Really BIG!

Would you believe I've seen that truck about 2 months ago!

The same fella has a 5 story caravan (don't ask) a big foot Merc (don't know the type as I'm not a Merc fan) and a benz tricycle (I think it's a replica) in his garage along with approx 100 other motors. He has a facination for Land Rovers, Hummers, 50's to 60's yank metal and mini's! I gave up counting at 40 4x4's.

I managed to get into the garage as he opens it sometimes to the public. I've got some photos at home and I'll post them later (they are quite poor, as the garage is in almost total darkness, and the flash wasn't powerful enough to light the full thing)

Ive a picture of a wide-bodied W-126 parked next to an ordinary W-126 and its 1 and a half times the width and height of the W-126. Sold to an Arab customer. Its also common for these customised cars to be abandoned on city streets or highways when these customers loose interest (and money!).
Other times they are taken by helicopter and dumped in the sea.

Here are the pics of the Merc and the Caravan. The ones of the Dodge are no good I'm afraid.
