Audi A4 temperature gauge slightly below halfway

I was test driving a 2003 Audi A4 today and noticed that the temperature gauge was sitting slightly below the halfway mark. I've never seen a temp gauge sit anywhere other than exactly halfway when the engine is warm except for when a car has overheated drastically.

Is this something which I should be worried about?

From memory no it's normal. If you can leave the car idling for a while and you will see the needle rise and the electric fan cut in. Drove one once that had no needle and the guy selling it tried to tell me it was normal;)

If at speed, it drops to say a quarter way your thermostat is stuck open. Otherwise you're grand.
