    Hi,
As per title I would like to go somewhere different - there are alot of places I'd like to go but it would need to be somewhere that it's easy to meet new people etc. I'm not great at meeting people you see but I would like to improve.

I'm only considering going away for a week or something. Has anyone ever done this and have you any advice to offer etc.?

    Thank you.

My sister went on her own on a tour of New Zealand and had a great time but group were a bit older than her - she is late twenties. I've been looking at geckos adventures and imaginative traveller brochures lately and both cater for solo travellers. May be best thing to join a group tour.:)

I was also going to suggest New Zealand but only for a week? Its a long way to travel there just for a week.
    Have you been to Iceland?

My only solo holiday was to a surf camp in Ericeira, Portugal for a week. It was great, met a lot of people despite there being no waves at all :) Activity-based holidays like surfing trips are a good way to meet people, you have the common interest so it's easy to strike up a conversation. Surfing might not be your thing but I'm sure you can think of something else.

Otherwise, I would recommend going on a tour with a company like Intrepid: http://www.intrepidtravel.com/ourtrips/ The website isn't working now but off the top of my head, they do tours around Asia & South America. I toured around Vietnam with them, was in a group of about 10 people. In that scenario, you get to know the group really well. Downsides: you have no control over the age/composition of the group and you have to share a room.

Wherever you go, just stay in a hostel. You'll end up chatting to a group of like-minded people in the common areas. Some of the best craic i had when inter-railing was going out with randomers I met in hostels.

I'm in a similar situation as yourself OP! I have 2 weeks off work in 2 weeks and i need to get away!
Most of my friends are in college so went on holidays in May before the summer really started and holidays were cheaper and the rest of my friends just can't afford to go anywhere!
I was thinking of going somewhere by myself, only for a wk or 10 days, any more suggestions?
A friend told me of a sailing course (I'm into sailing) that she did that was amazing crack and full of people who were on there own but it was in cork, not exactly the amazing adventure I had planned!

Go to Rome or Naples or both, stay in a hostel and you'll definitely meet English speakers from all over.
booze and food are really good and really reasonable and the architecture and art will have you rubbernecking everywhere you go.
