Have always had trouble with the locks on my focus cus of the key been worn away. However now i cant open the bonnet so need to get them all replaced. Ford garage tells me it will cost €400. Anyone know if its worth my while going north to get it done cheaper or any other alternatives?

Yep the garage made me a new key and no joy. Can open the doors pretty handy but not the boot or bonnet which is strange considering how seldom they would be opened compared to the doors.

Fords have a release underneath the Ford badge in the front grill like this instead of an internal release:

Wowzers! Never knew that! Getting back to the OP I guess the door locks have worn along with the keys and the boot and bonnet lock receivers haven't worn to the same extent due to lack of use hence the problem.

So does anyone think i'd save much by getting the locks replaced up north?

Does the €400 include 2 front door locks, boot lock, bonnet lock and ignition barrel fitted with 2 new keys coded? If so that doesn't sound too bad.

Yep as far as i can recall it was for everything. The majority of the cost was labour tho. About €270 was labour which would surely be cheaper up north. As its an 8 year old focus and worth only €3k im seroiusly thinking of getting rid of it.

Unless you're thinking of trading it in, you might find it hard to sell a car that you cant open the bonnet on? And new locks with 2 new keys wont add value but might help to sell it.

I know i cant sell it when the bonnet wont open so i have to get it fixed. Thats why i was hoping i would save money by going north. It only failed the nct 2 weeks ago due to the lights needing to be refocused which cant be now done til i get the locks fixed :(
