Hi all newbie runner here Idid a bit of training this summer for 5.8 mile of cork marathon.
Gave it a good go delighted to finish in 41 mins.
However next guy never turned up so I waited ten mins then ran his leg 5.5 miles and seen as there was only one more leg after that I decided to run that too.
Two miles from the end had to stop leg was killing me and I walked /ran the rest.
End result is I have iliotibial band syndrome as diagnosed by Dr Google.
Can play a bit of footy or run about 2ks no prob but try both or overdo either and knee just says no!
My problem is I'm planning doing an adventure race in Sept its my first one and dont want to miss it or do it half fit.
While recovering, is it a good idea to keep playing a little 5 a side and doing short runs and stopping if or before I feel any pain?
Would this help or hinder my recovery?
Thanks for any answers hope somebody out there has had a similar experience and has recovered quickly.
    Cheers

Only way you get a good recovery is to go to the physio.

No medical advice from me, just a 'well done' for taking that approach in Cork rather than just shrugging your shoulders (as I probably would have done.) Hope you recover shortly.

I recommend you go to see star geoghegan in carlow. it'll be well worth the trip, the pain, and the endless reading of magazines in the waiting room.

Dr. Google has had a lot of bad diagnosis recently. I suggest a second opinion. And I dont recommend Dr. Yahoo either.

Seriously go see a proper phisio or doctor they are really the only ones who can advise you properly.

    Thanks for replies
Any recommendations for a decent physio in cork.
I've been to a few over the years cos of my dodgy hammy but not too convinced that many of them know what they are doing.
Remember telling one physio that I thought maybe a pain I had in my back was causing my hammy trouble and she dismissed this saying my back was fine.
I went for a massage a few days later and the masseuse found that my back was all knotted, she broke this up over a couple of sessions and since then I've noticed that the cause always comes from my back.
Just made me wary of physios in general.
Anyway thanks and any recommendations gratefully accepted.
Hopefully will try to get up to Carlow at some stage but wont be for a few months.
