making dead tree garden sculpture

I have recently cut down some dead apple trees and stripped the bark. They are currently air-drying. As they have been dead for many years and been exposed to the elements, they are pretty dried out anyway...
I am considering treating these and using them to make a dead tree forest sculpture in my garden.

Any tips on how to go about preserving them?

Wow that sounds really cool but I have no idea hah.. Maybe covering them in some kind of plastic like in the bodies exhibition?

    Hi

Yeah -the limbs of the trees are pretty big and look really good since I have stripped the bark..so it seemed like a good idea to return them to the garden as trees (albeit dead ones!)........

I am planning to protect them with wood preservative and oil them to bring out the grain of the wood.and either mount them on a concrete base (not too sure about this though) ..or else just place them in the ground with the bases protected from moisture...so I hopefully will have my dead forest sculptural piece....and with the good weather lately, they have dried out perfectly.

I think covering them in a type of resin (which is what the bodies were treated with in Bodies) is a bit too high tech for me!!.....but it would probably be the best way to go with them.

I thought it was called plasticine... At least that's what I recall. But have fun! I'm sure it will look great when it's done.

something like clear ronseal varnish for out door furniture and decking would be simple and last for years.:)
