I am just wondering how long that would take and would it be possible to do twice a day ? I am not a cyclist but I am quite fit , I play football and run regularly. My guess would be two hours but have no clue whether or not it would be possible to take on twice a day. Any ideas ?

I actually did this a few weeks ago, Clontarf to Drogheda along coast and back to Dublin via Ratoath. It took about 6 and a half hours, but it was a long way back. I'm not fit so you may be right with the 2 hours mark one way, but more than likely 2.5?

I'd say 2hrs, you might be able to build up to 1.5 hrs eventually without going flat out.

Twice a day should be fine but not everyday.

OK thanks all for the replies. I live a little before Drogheda and was gona consider cycling to work to save money. As Glennamaddy said I think I would be able to do it but it would more than likely take its tole after a week or two

I do Bettystown to the city centre 2/3 times per week.

It's doable, but as someone has already said - not every day.

If you want some company on the cycle either in or out PM me.

It takes anything from 1-30 to 2hrs depending on wind etc. - Blake's Cross is about the hairiest part of the trip.

Another option which would allow you to experience it is to use the Matthews Coaches - they'll let you load your bike - Although I'd like to point out I've never wimped out of cycling it, but it's nice to know the option is there!

Bar a small climb around Balbriggan and Julianstown village, it's mostly downhill most of the way from Drogheda to around Swords with two quick up and down climbs between Airside and Coachmans. It's downhill again from the airport, thru Santry and Drumcondra as well.

I did my place (Rush) to Tullyesker between Drogheda and Dunleer return last Saturday. Including food stops and puncture repair :(, it took 4 hours. Round trip of 56miles.

I will definitely do this but need to get a bike 1st ! I am going to apply for one on the cycle to work scheme so when I am sorted out I may PM you . I use Matthews coaches at the minute and thats a good idea you have, I may cycle in the morning and bus it home.

I met a lad cycling north on the N1 this evening. He does Grafton St to Drogheda regularly. 50km each way...

    No problem.

If you're going to use the bus, I'm not sure what the situation is where you work, but you might consider bussing in the morning and cycling in the evening - it cuts out any "shower" issues in the workplace and generally you're cycling with the prevailing winds. On the downside, you're home later.

I do 3 or 4 trips a week from stameen-merrion sq now that the weather's good (e.g. spin in monday, spin home tuesday, same thurs and fri - havent tried roundtrip in one day yet!).

Timing varies between 90 - 120 mins depending on conditions, leave drog around 730, dub around 530 if anyone wants to join me, could speed up times with some drifting!
