    hi,

looking for a bit of advice, the digitial guage on my dashboard for the engine temp was going fairly high last week so popped the bonnet and checked the resevoir and it seemed completely empty .
started to open the cap and steam started to come out and the bubbling resevoir fluid started to flow back into the plastic resevoir and filled up to the minimum level line.

i decided to top it up with some more fluid and it semed fine for a day or two.
    the problem has returned.

    how can i fix this?

Ok there are a couple of possible causes:

    1. Thermostat gone (coolant can't get out to radiator and is overheating).

    2. There is a leak somewhere, you are losing coolant and then the car is overheating.

    3. Your headgasket is gone and the coolant is leaking into the engine.

To check number 1: Run the engine for half an hour. See if the pipe leading to the radiator (and the radiator itself) warms up.

To check number 2: Run the engine until it's hot. Visually inspect all coolant pipes and engine for leaks.

To check number 3: Check for while scum under the oil cap (or brown scum in the coolant tank). A mechanic can do a pressure test to confirm.

The loss of coolant would lead me to suspect either 2 or 3. Either way, get it to a mechanic asap.

    Hope this helps,
    M

    Top it up when cold.

Engine temperature should always be consistent. If you're lucky it could be a plumbing problem. You're highly likely to be in trouble with the head gasket. If you're lucky it could be a plumbing problem.

I wouldn't waste time, I'd go to a mechanic straigth away to prevent further problems.

Was the tensioner changed with the belt?

How well minded was the car? Serviced on the button, parts put in when needed?

Was the coolant changed on time?
