    Hi all,

Bought 't-cut' yesterday and before I was going to use it I googled it and it said it can take some protective layer off the metallic paint, hence damage it. After seeing this I didn't use it. Anyone use it before, opinions?

It'll be fine once you wax afterwards. It's abrasive, but not enough to remove any significant amount of clear coat/lacquer.

A much better product to use and easier to take off is : Scratchout. It comes in a yellow plastic bottle or tub.
I would never use Tcut again, too much bother.

Thanks Seperate. Is there need to polish it then or just wax?

T-cut, polish and wax. That'd be the ideal way but your talking 4-5 hours work. T-cut is a hard job. If you just put it on lightly and take it off it'll do nothing you need to give it serious elbow grease.

They do a version for metallic paints as well which isn't as abrasive. Why not bring it back and exchange it for something more appropriate. What age and colour is your car?

Meguiars scratch x I find ok too but again serious elbow grease needed. You can only do so much by hand.

Couldn't even find T-Cut last time I was looking for it and ended up with Safe-Cut. Took a load of kids fingerprints (suncream) off my metallic car and brought it up looking really quite well.

Also used the Black colour magic on herself's car and my old car. Not great at covering scratches / marks, but does bring the paintwork up well.

OP hasn't mentioned anything about scratches so why is everyone assuming so. If he/she just wants a cleaner type polish, use something milder like Turtle Wax Platinum Car Wax or Sonax Xtreme polish & wax 2 or Autoglym super resin polish if working with what is available in the shops or motor factors. Apply with one of those Meguiars yellow foam applicators and buff off residue with a soft microfibre cloth.

T cut is for restoring tired paintwork...not for cleaning or polishing....a good quality polish and loads of elbow grease is what you need....

I got the T-cut to remove a few light scratches and swirl marks. Mainly on the bonnet, not really for the whole car, I suppose. The doors seem fine bar two scraps on the end. I think corktina is right, more polish I need than anything!.
