    Hi all

Long story cut short i have developed an interest in forensic psychology.
I know its a long long road for anybody thinking of doing it.
As i work full time id like to do a course that would give me an insight into it but thats not too long in duration.

I have looked at various colleges and courses and found these too.
But really i havent a clue what im looking at, so i was wondering if any of you kind folks could give me some feedback on these courses or maybe even suggest alternatives.

    http://www.dbs.ie/Popular-Psychology/Evening-Diploma.htm

the other course is popular forensic psychology also at DBS but the page isnt opening for me to link it.

If you cant post about these courses on thread would you please pm me instead.

    thanks in advance

I have done neither, I did my BA and MA there, but it was 2002 when I last studied there, and I did psychoanalysis. However, I would still have a bit of contact there. I don't know the people who do those particular courses, but I still hear good things about the staff at DBS.

When I started there in 1997 it was LSB and much smaller and tbh it was like a large family very open and friendly. Since the change I have been hearing about organisational issues and admin being an issue. As I said I don't know the individual staff on those courses but I know quite a few of the psychology/psychotherapy staff and the know their stuff and teach well.

Which course you pick is another issue, where do you want to go with it? As above I started my degree in 1997, I started my journey with a 12 week introduction to psychology that gave me a brief overview, I found the work of Freud interesting read more and more and that led me to my degree, LSB/DBS was the only undergrad option available in psychoanalysis.

It has provided me with a good career and more importantly one than I enjoy, so my suggestion would be to pick the one you think you will most enjoy. At that type of level these courses don't mean much in terms of career development, in that they are a not qualification. As you said yourself your more looking for something that will give you a basic insight into the area. The popular psych one will cover more areas but the other one would be a tad more focused in one specific area. Hence, the main criteria for me here would that the one you pick supplies the basic insight you want and provides you with an idea if this is an area where you would consider further study. Personally I think either one should cover those, the most siginificant thing is that you enjoy it, because if you don't you won't want to know more about the area.

The last thing I would say is if you decide to do one, make the classes; I have taught on a few brief courses like this over the years and its amazing how many people pay for courses and don't attend. If you do one, get the most you can out of it. I know these courses are not cheap.

    Best of luck with it.
