    Hi all,

Its my mothers 50th and I've booked the two of us in for a facial in Buttercups off Grafton Street satruday week.

Were going to do a bit of shopping, grab some delicious lunch and then head for the facial, the thing is I dont know many top class restaurants around Grafton Street as I'm not really a townie!!

I guess the budget would be €50pp MAX but it has to be somewhere really delicious....

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks
    niamh

Although, too many times I've recommended a restaurant and the peeps were disappointed :o

It's all fairly subjective and dependent on what's on the menu on a given day...

If I was around Grafton St. then I'd go for Hugo's - only around the corner on Baggot St.

Had a bad bad dinner in Brasserie Sixty-Six before - avoid.

There's a Boulevard Cafe just off South William St. somewhere as well

How about One Pico. Always gets good reviews. Just off Molesworth St so very close to Buttercups.

How far from Grafton street are you willing to go? The absolute poshest restaurant in town is not far - l'ecrivain on Baggot street.

Definitely avoid. Over-priced mediocre food and very poor service.

50 quid isn't goign to get you "top class", but this is a nice place.

I think L'Gueuleton on Fade Street (beside Hogans and opposite the Market bar) is one of the best restaurants in town and for a great price.

Nice place alright - do they still operate that silly 'no booking' policy though?

The Pig's Ear is amazing: http://www.thepigsear.com/

If you're willing to walk to Baggot Street area then definitely try Diep Le Shaker: www.diep.net/

Alfie's is good, I like it there during the day!! :D

I'd go for Peploes or One Pico. L'Ecrivain can be a bit stuffy (although less so than the other Michelin places), Hugos was terrible the one time I went.

Haven't been to Thorntons in years but they have a E25 lunch menu available at weekends, and room overlooks Stephen's Green:

Oh god, I thought that place was terrible. The food was absolutely vile and the constant terrible, terrible, dance music blaring out it's probably the worst place I've ever been to in Dublin in the last few years.

    Really? How Strange!! :D

It's been a few months since I've been there and was only there during the day.But I did used to go there quite alot and I never had any complaints. I don't even think there was music playing when I was there. There was always a large group of us (between 6 and 12) and nobody ever had any complaints. It may have changed in recent times though. It would not suprise me as the number of places gone down hill in this city is astonishing!!

Alfie's could not be considered 'top-class' by any stretch of the imagination.

La Cave on Sth. Anne's St.

While it may not be top class in the same way as L'ecrivain it will give you authentic french cuisine, fit the 50quid a pop bracket easily and has a lovely, good fun, atmosphere.
Booze it up until the small hours too.

    Alfies? That's essentially a diner I thought.

Would second La Cave. (More info here)
The Farm on Dawson Street is quite good too.
If you want somewhere really special go to L'Ecrivan imo.
Info on Pacinos and Unicorn lunch menus on that site too.

Marco Pierre White's Steakhouse on Dawson Street.

You also have the ever present Trocadero on St. Andrew Street (though not sure if it opens for lunch...), and if you're really pushing the boat out, Shanahans (V expensive though).

Some of the other restaurants around that have been posted already are good too.

    Shanahans for a steak?

    Gourgeous food.
A bit hard to spot since they don't have their name over the door.

Yip. The peeps are still queuing.

Upstairs in Fallon and Byrne, on Exchequer St., do great food as well and with a genteel atmosphere, if you're looking posh.

And the Pearl Brasserie would be my favourite. French food again.

    Is Shanahans still open?
