There isn't even a need to study for this tbh!
    Looking forward to it! :D

Are we the only 2 who are doing tech here:confused:

    What is technology?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,640 ✭✭✭DylanS09

    I don't know!
I've music on the same day as well! I'll have to do a bit of study for that now alright.
In my year there's only me and another guy who are in for the whole day next Wednesday!

It's kinda like woodwork...well the project part is except you don't have to use wood!
The theory is all to do with electricity and technology in society. There's a bit of TG in it as well, but not much!

    So... Is it metalwork?

Technology is the mixture of wood, plastic, electronics, different types of drawings, mechanisms and green stuff (pollutions).....

    Amm...no!:P
    It's hard to explain...
You can use metal if you want like..it's a mixture between woodwork, metal work and leaving cert physics!:o
    It's a class subject though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,840 ✭✭✭Luno

Ah you complicated people and your complicated subjects!
Technology  What's so technological about it anyways?
Posh version of metalwork, woodwork and tech graph I'd say!

The electricity part and stuff..you never go into half as much detail in Science about all that stuff that you do in technology! Our teacher was telling us it's leaving cert physics..

I didnt know that till now its LC physics!!:o
    Thank you!

    Bedside Tidy! You??

Same as dylan, bedside. That seems to be the easiest from the options..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,988 ✭✭✭Monsieur Folie

I did the bedside tidy too!

Our teacher was pathetically bad at teaching theory. I know enough about Technology in Society already to get away with it though. The short questions won't go to well for me!

Section C, question 1 is my worst.:(...dimensions and describing the process

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭toadpenguin

I thought Technology was just a posh name for metalwork! I never realised it was it's own subject. Was getting a bit scared when I saw ye all talking about different projects, I was like "wait, we had a choice?"! Lol.

It doesn't really help the way metalwork is now called 'Materials & Technology'. Perhaps they're trying to phase out traditional metalwork for the JC and replace it with Technology? Ponder ponder...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,321 ✭✭✭Jackobyte

Is the written paper the same as metalwork? Our past papers are branded Materials Technology.

I don't really know because I don't do metal work... Does the metal work paper have stuff to do with electronics and energy and stuff??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,321 ✭✭✭Jackobyte

Section 1A-Compulsory. Engines, inventors, electronic symbols

Section 1B-Compulsory. Questions on the project you did.

+ any 3 of the following

    Section 2-Design Process

    Section 3-Tools and Machines

    Section 4-The furnace

    Section 5-Materials and Mechanisms

    Scetion 6-Mix

    Section 7-CNC lathe and computing

Well, we don't get asked anything about the project in the actual paper!
But mechanisms and electronics we get asked about alright!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,988 ✭✭✭Monsieur Folie

Nah, that's not the same paper. it seems to be similar though.

No there is a certain amount of leaving cert physics in technology. I did it in 2nd year but then gave it up and we had to make our own electrical project and we had to set up our own circuits with the use of diodes, LEDs resistors, etc. and we had to solder them together. Haha I made an evil santa with 2 red LEDs for eyes :P

i made the thing to warn the lorry drivers of a low bridge

Tech should be easy. Made my bedside tidy in 3 weeks in April (after school :pac: )
Got 97.5% in the mocks (-5M for compound gears), So I'm hoping for a B (Taking into account my project)

Tech: When ya just can't be ar*ed studying.

Its my last exam, can't freaking wait to get it over and done with, sick of sitting in freaking exam halls...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 439 ✭✭RML

Ready guys for the last exam of Junior cert for us?

I haven't opened the book since the day before we started the project...:/

I'll be fine though...it's mostly common sense anyways!
Might have a run through symbols and mechanisms!
Are we aloud to ask for log tables??

Yep! We are having log tables for the exam...The symbols for electronics are in the tables. lol.

    That's what I was thinking!
All the symbols are in them so I wasn't sure if they'd give them to us!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 439 ✭✭RML

Its stupid asking us to write down the symbols and they are given in the log tables and they are worth 5 or more marks

Best of luck you guys! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,849 ✭✭✭bluejay14

Good luck everyone!:) I don't know one thing about technology but good luck anyway! Ye'll do great!:) And then ye're free!

6 Marks in the SAQ's thanks to the tables :D

Difficult enough exam. Food production? C'mon!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,640 ✭✭✭DylanS09

Short questions weren't the easiest but the rest was pretty easy!
