I know the add better accuracy to your AEG/rifle etc. But how accurate are they?

If I had one - If I point and shoot will the BB follow exactly or is it still pretty much hit and miss.

In other words - How effective are they at increasing accuracy?

might need to explain how i see tight bores and there effect and my terminology to try and answer this as i think we all use slightly different terms to mean the same thing, for me tight bore increases consistency when used with high quality bb and a good bucking

for example you may have 2 foot grouping at 50feet add a tight bore and this goes down to 1 foot at 50feet and you know have a 2 foot grouping out to 65+ feet, there for increasing your effective range

for me and a bb and accuracy is about putting a bb on a torso sized target and the distance i can do this out to

the problem with tight bores is it is hard to give you exact figures as it comes down to a lot of factors, type of aeg type of hop up, bucking, quality of barrel, quality of bb, length of barrel, weight of bb the list goes on and on all you can say is a tight bore will help to increase your effect range by improving consistency

What do you mean by "bucking" ? Is this a particular part of the AEG?

On a similar note then - How effective is a new hop-up? Is it actually essential? Can you recommend one thats worth getting?

    sorry for that

bucking - i meaning a hop up bucking is is the sleave of material that is over the barrel and then placed within the hop up unit, a great upgrade is to replace the stock bucking with a guarder clear, this bucking is made of a softer material than most stock bucking and will increase the effect of the hop up and give you a performance boost

there is not normally much performance increase between hopup units of the same type, normally when i bring up difference in performance between hop up units i mean different types of hop up units like ak, m4 or g36 for example some designs can give better performance but again it comes down to a lot of factors and tbh is not that important

the easiest and most cost effective upgrades are the hop up bucking and a tight bore barrel

As a player, I dont see the need to basically tear my AEG down and rebuild it with this and that. However, I would like some better accuracy.

So your saying that a hop-up bucking and a tightbore are all I would need to do this? That sounds reasonable enough. I'll definetly have a look into it.

Is there a specific type of hop-up required for an AK or is this Guarder thing universal? Same as a tightbore - How do I find my barrel length? Must I disassemble the AEG to measure it?

Also, Would an Airsoft retailer do these upgrades for me? I would be terrified to even attempt to open up my AEG on my own - Incase you can;t tell, I know nothing about them!

    Thanks :)

the hop up unit itself is known simply as an ak type but you do not need to change this

the part you need to change out is the bucking, what you would need is the guarder clear aeg bucking ( will dig up some links for you)

the tightbore would need to be an aeg type and around 455mm long, retailer normally will label there barrels by aeg type e.g m4 ak g36

be aware thought these are some of the easiest upgrades they still do need some disassemble of the aeg more so with the ak than an m4 for example

Thanks very much puding, really appreciate your hints and tips. I think I'll go ahead with this then over the next couple of weeks.

Finally, If I was to get an Airsoft retailer to upgrade this for me - is it an easy thing to do or would it take a number of days?

for an experienced tech for the vfc ak you could easily have it done with half and hour the issue is work is normally done as it comes in so you could be at the back of a waiting list

Thanks Puding - I've seen alot of different brands of tightbore aswell? Whats the difference? And whats this "Twist Barrel" I see?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,152 ✭✭✭Inari

The twist barrel is a specific type of barrel that's rifled, which creates an air cushion around the BB, which carries it down the barrel without contacting the barrel itself which in turn increases consistency. It is a lot more costly than other tightbores.

The difference between brands is their material, consistency, finish and reliability. TK Twist and promethius barrels are recommended as the best ones, generally speaking, however Madbull and Vanaras are much more cost effective, and also come recommended.

I'd just like to put 2 cents in while I'm still up...

If you want to save on money, the Hop up and barrel are relatively simple things to change yourself if you have any technical skill about you (unfortunately I don't, but thats just me). If you wanted, you could get this and try stick it in yourself (much cheaper the a twist barrel).

if you want to get an idea of the actual barrel length, measure the diustance from the front of the magwell to the tip of the barrel. That will give you an idea.

As far as hop up goes, I would recommend madbull blue, but it's really personal preference. If you ask 3 different airsofters, they could all tell you a different type, and none of them would be wrong.

Sorry, but saw the thread and I couldn't resist butting in.
