    Hi,

Have decide to drive to legoland in July, boat over and stay 2or 3 days either side of the legoland gig - 2 + 3 kids (2,7,10). Any advice on legoland area hotels. Will have car so can travel within reason.

so, what route would you advise - would like to stay away from motorways - and possible towns/hotels to stay in, attractions to see on way down and different route on way back.

any advice or other places of interest that ye well traveled folks have been through :)

    thanks

    k

what sort of budget are you on?

If you stay in Windsor, you can into Waterloo for a day trip in London and Windsor itself is worth a day. Thorpe Park and chessington are both within a 30 minute drive as well.

You could go over to Holyhead and visit some of the Attractions in Angelsey and North Wales, maybe staying the first night in Chester? or you could drive down through Betys y Coed and go for a ride on a steam train or visit a copper or slate mine.

Then maybe come back through Rosslare and stop into Whipsnade Safari Park or Stonehenge? or even nip into Dorset and Visit Monkey World and the Tank Museum, maybe staying around Weymouth or Poole?

no budget really - just want a good break. will try stay away for a week to ten days but will not be under any pressure at all to return.

thanks - thats some list of items to start researching - mines etc - the kids would love that. will defo try to come back a different way and as said stay off the motorways.

    great stuff.

The Great Orme mine in Llandudno looks quite good. There is an old Tram there as well. I am thinking of a trip there myself later this year.

The Runnymede hotel has some offers on for people going to Legoland. They look expensive, but they include park tickets. In Windsor itself, you have the Castle Hotel, Hart and Garter and the Christopher Wren Hotel which are very nice, but not cheap. There is also a travel Lodge which might get a bit noisy at night as it is right where the bars and restaurants are.

I love Windsor, it is a fascinating place. 900 years of history in one town, bot not ideal for the avid republican!!
