    I'v a question which I hope someone can help me with. I'm 22 and living away from home full-time. I received JSA last year for months and got the full rate then of 204. I recently became unemployed again so I signed on a few wks ago. I am now in receipt of 150e per week of SWA . However, I have friends who are in the exact same circumstances as me (under 25 etc) receiving 196 jsa per week and have told me that im entitled to same as I had previously made a claim. Is this true? These people are definitely receiving 196 and if so is there huge mistakes being made? My housemate signed on last week and the man dealing with her claim said she'll get 196 as she had previously claimed. I'll be livid if some are receiving 196 and more 150. I cannot get through to my social welfare office EVER so any help would be great!

    Afaik if you open a NEW claim then you would only get €150. Are you sure your friends didn't have a pending claim?

    If they opened a claim before the cuts came into effect. They didn't have to be recieving anything, just once the claim is open. Afaik once they close it, if for any reason they need to claim again, if it falls under a new claim they will only get €150.

    Also do any of your friends have other circumstances? Kids or anything?

    You should query why the following didn't apply in your case:

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:BtSC_hQb4gcJ:www.welfare.ie/EN/Publications/sw19/Pages/sw19_sect6.aspx+jobseekers+allowance+12+months&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ie

    Under 25 rates for Jobseeker’s Allowance

    Persons not affected:

    * 18 to 24 year olds with a qualified child;
    * those transferring to Jobseeker’s Allowance immediately after exhausting their entitlement to Jobseeker’s Benefit;
    * those making a claim for Jobseeker’s Allowance where that claim is linked to a Jobseeker’s Allowance claim made within the previous 12 months to which the maximum personal rate applied;
    * those transferring directly to Jobseeker’s Allowance from Disability Allowance.

    Also check why you were not covered by this

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:YZ9b-I4PqDgJ:www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/ja_jobseekall.aspx+repeat+claims+12+months+jobseekers+allowa&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ie

    Repeat Claims

    A person who is employed for 4 or more consecutive days and becomes unemployed, s/he may make a repeat claim for JA when that employment ends.

    Where a person re-applies for JA within 52 weeks of a previous JA claim, s/he is entitled to receive the same rate of JA that was previously in payment subject to any change of circumstances and budgetary increases

    These are termed as repeat claims.

    So the OP should be on the full rate. Would he get any of that backdated I wonder?

    OP will need to check out the situation as it applies to his/her exact circumstances. It is possible that he/she was employed for more than 52 weeks
    before repeat claim was made.

    Very true. OP a lot of the offices don't answer the phone so you need to pop down and visit them face to face tbh
